Putting Together Outfits.

I've spent 10 minutes this morning staring into my wardrobe trying to work out what to wear, I have loads of clothes, so that's not the problem, but really struggle on what to put with what and what goes with what.

Can you please let me know your secrets.

I know a clear out is in order, I'm currently browsing the sales online and have seen this which I like :

www.newlook.com/shop/womens/dresses/shell-pink-jacquard-print-tea-dress-_265232072

But I would like a longline fine knit cardy to go with it, but I have probably 15 chunky knitted cardy's but no fine knit.

This happens to me every time I think "oh I'll wear this", I then struggle what to put with it to finish it off.

Thank you x

Hmm, I must be doing something wrong with polyvore. If I type in 'jaeger' or 'tartan skirt' I just get individual items and where to buy them. I don't seem to be getting the pictures of people who have styled them.

Hedwig06 · 09/03/2013 09:02

Queen I'm having that problem?? May be someone can give me point by point instructions Smile

I've started trying to buy more "quality" items too, but I'm having a problem with all the tops I've bought getting holes in them by the waistband of my trousers, probably because of my belt? But I need my belt, I have to buy trousers/jeans that fit my bum - which are then in turn too big for my waist, hence the belt.

This thread is ace Smile!
Never thought of looking at Pinterest or that there Polyvore before [old gimmer], but am off to put my new jaquard keks in - see if my kitten-heeled slingback idea tallies with everyone else's.

I must say, if you can afford it/get it as a present, sessions with House of Colour pay off so many times over the years - especially if you have the image day as well as the colours < not related to Hopefully >.
I know some people scoff at it but maybe they're the lucky naturally stylish and gorgeous few - for the rest of us, who need a little help, it's great.

Never again will you need to start a thread saying 'what do you think of this dress/will this coat suit me?' You'll know.

shopafrolic · 09/03/2013 09:18

I don't use Polyvore myself but if you look at the home page here
www.polyvore.com
and then click on the lists on the left hand side there are styling tips etc....

Hedwig06 · 09/03/2013 09:22

Well I'm definitely not naturally stylish. But I'm determined to give it a good go Grin

Thanks Shopafrolic, I'll have another go .......

I love polyvore and pinterest for inspiration - it's great to have a look around and see looks put together
I'm on both so feel free to follow and I'll follow back
I would link here but I'm not sure I'm allowed but my username plus dotcom will give you a whole site of ladies who show what they wear everyday - all sorts of women posting and sharing - I get my inspiration from them

Followed you I think Avenue57 x

Pinterest does help. If it doesn't fit on there, it's unlikely to fit with the wardrobe.

Also if you have a subtle style which you find hard to define, ie not clearly dramatic, classic or natural or all those things, it can really guide you on what that 'thing' is that leads you to choosing certain things.

So I know I like things to be a good colour, good fibre but relatively simple. That I like clean lines and no fuss, but not too sharp. A narrow window really.

MarshaBrady · 09/03/2013 09:37

And a random pin here if you fancy following.

Hedwig06 · 09/03/2013 09:37

That's the thing MarshaBrady I like individual items.

I walk around the shops, look online, and buy things because I think "Oh I love that", but when I try to put things together they never seem to gel, I feel uncomfortable.

But the items I own are lovely on their own? If that's makes sense Grin

MarshaBrady · 09/03/2013 09:40

Yes makes sense. Have you done the pinterest thing, put all your wardrobe on there if you can! And it may well build a picture.

The tea dress is very pretty and vintage-ish. It could be your style, and by its nature it will be more adhoc and mixed.

Hedwig06 · 09/03/2013 09:44

Yes I'm just on pinterest, but I've been looking at all the boards and pinning all the things I like.

I'm going to have a sort out of my wardrobe later on and then start adding things that I already have onto pinterest and see if that helps x

Yes do a separate my wardrobe board. You can do it secretly even if you wish.

Hedwig06 · 09/03/2013 09:54

Random Question, Is there a Pinterest button the Next website? I can't seem to find it x

Sleepwhenidie · 09/03/2013 10:18

You can download a pin it button from Pinterest so you can pin pics from sites without a Pinterest button. Go to Goodies.

I recently pinned most of my wardrobe here and was shocked by the lack of much colour variation - loads of grey, bit of red. Everything goes together pretty well as a result but seeing it has helped me introduce a bit more colour with tops/scarves/bags.

It's also very useful to pin purchases you are considering to see if they will work with your existing stuff (or take you in your new style direction) and give you time to figure out if you really really want it. IME if you give yourself a few days and then still love and want something, you will rarely go wrong.

MarshaBrady · 09/03/2013 10:31

Yes sometimes the little pang in the wanting (you know that slight pang of oh I'd love that) passes after a couple of days. Sticking it on a board is a little tiny bit of ownership that is free.

Before I used to do wishlists on NaP and would go back at the end of the season and there were quite a few items that I was really pleased about not buying. Which made me think about the new season more carefully.

BrandyAlexander · 09/03/2013 14:45

Hedwig did you get polyvore to "work"? If not will do some instructions for you.

Here are my Pinterest boards m.pinterest.com/noviceoftheday/

freerangeeggs · 09/03/2013 14:45

Thanks everyone - I just looked up a skirt I was thinking about buying on pinterest and now I'm definitely going to get it as I can see it would be really easy to wear.

Those having trouble searching - in the search bar it has a drop down menu - I think I picked 'items' or 'collections'?

freerangeeggs · 09/03/2013 14:46

Nope, I picked 'sets' :)

TerraNotSoFirma · 09/03/2013 14:59

Anyone seen any great Pinterest boards for SAHM outfits?
I can make myself look great for going out for lunch, night out etc, but for day to day nursery run, play park, housework I find myself stuck in leggings and joggers, very boring.

BrandyAlexander · 09/03/2013 15:00

If you pick items it shows you similar items and how others have styled it. That's exactly how I use Pinterest and polyvore together.Smile

MarshaBrady · 09/03/2013 15:27

Terra how about skinnies?

I'm a sahm (well ish, do wahm and sometimes do projects). But when I'm home I wear a lot of skinnies.

In summer skirts and the odd dress, but gone of tights for the time being so not usually in winter.

MarshaBrady · 09/03/2013 17:36

gone off tights

shopafrolic · 09/03/2013 19:50

I'm a SAHM and live in skinnies, ankle boots or Ash Bowies and sweatshirts or tees and blazers..... Feel free to see if anything inspires........
