Non-soap shower and hair products

I rarely venture into this topic and must be a contender for the most unstylish mum ever Grin but I'd be really grateful if you are able to help.

I find soap based products to be too drying for my skin, which is sensitive, and I am forever trying to find something that cleans without stripping oils from the skin.

Someone suggested I try an oil based cleanser and perhaps a non-soap shampoo, but they didn't have any recommendations for products.

Would anyone be able to help here? I currently use the new L'Oreal No Sulphites shampoo which seems to have improved my scalp (psoriasis problem) but I'm sure I could do better.

Thank you Smile

I think by non-soap you mean SLS free. I had a thread on this the other day, re hair care. Sorry I can't link as on phone but if you search for SLS-free it will come up.

I tried the Body Shop Rainforest shampoo and it was ok but really did not foam at all and so made my hair horribly tangled. Now I am using Tigi S-factor sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and that is much better. I got it from escentual.com and delivery was v fast.

For shower gel I use Dr Organics stuff, available from Holland and Barrett. They do shampoo too but I haven't tried that. Currently everything is on 3 for 2 at H and B.

Thanks for some ideas. The No Sulphite shampoo I mentioned is SLS free, but the suggestion I had recently, especially in relation to body products, was for items that are oil based. I was given one recommendation today, Aveeno bath and shower oil. Might take a look.

I did try the Dr Organics shampoos. Hated the smell of the honey one, lavender one okayish, but otherwise I didn't rate them.

Given the comments on the Chat thread about shoving garlic up the fanjo (or not), finding some products that are not brimming in chemicals or soap might just be a good thing....Grin

Might be an odd suggestion - how do you get on with conditioners? Could you try a period of 'co-washing' you stop using shampoo entirely. I have a patch of eczema on my scalp & found it really helped as my scalp wasn't getting dried out & my natural oil balance settled too - no split skin or scabs & less need to wash as frequently as less oil production. I do use the naked shampoos occasionally as I get on with them if my scalp is good but mostly co-wash.

I also use apple cider vinegar occasionally as a rinse.
I use coconut oil to deep condition because as well as making my hair feel lovely it is really soothing & good for my scalp. I don't even weave my own lentils!
