Top lip...to thread or wax or what?!

Hello there

Quick thing.....after many years of hating my admittedly not that bad top lip hair, I finally went to see about laser treatment. To cut a long story short, it won't work as most of the hair is blonde, laser works least well on the face (apparently) and, the clincher for me, I'd have to shave Shock to have it done.

So I've decided to make an effort in another way and just wondered if anyone had any advice.

I have been bleaching for years so any advice on waxing or threading? Anyone had this done and happy with results? Ideas regarding time between appointments or any drawbacks I should be aware of?

I get mine threaded, it is a ittle unsettling when she offers to do my chin as well.

I've not tried threading but my daughter did a couple of weeks ago and burst into tears as it was so painful. Personally, I use one of those little buzzy razor wand thingys - about every month or so when I remember

Does it get rid of all of it? And what is the regrowth like? I think that's what has put me off doing anything before but I am sure times must have changed!

I think threading is great for areas like the eyebrow where it really matters that they get individual hairs to give the brow a perfectly polished look. In my opinion I would wax the upper lip as you do not need the same precision level as with a brow and it is much fast and much less painful than threading!

Post threading or waxing (I can't believe I don't really know this!) does it grow back a little "spiky" IYSWIM?

I think that is a fair point Guntie, I get mine done at the same time as my eyebrows. I don't find threading that painful.

I find threading ok. Not too painful. You could take painkillers half an hour before. I prefer threading to waxing. Not sure why!

Waxing here. Re growth is soft and not v noticeable. Definitely not stubbly.

I threaded my top lip myself a couple of weeks ago, watched a you tube video and off I went ! Wasnt bad at all and I will do it again when it regrows. Would never do my eyebrows too much margin or error but decided what was the worse I could do on my lip .....

I pluck! Seriously, Tweezerman tweezers and a X12 magnifying mirror. I find waxing means you see hairs starting to come through again fairly quickly, tweezing I do in a minute every day after a shower.

NB; the first time you see how hairy you are in a magnified mirror you will scream in horror and spend approximately 11 hours removing every tiny blonde hair in sight.

Was really really easy - just made a sort of cats cradle thing with cotton, twisted it a few times and placed on lip and opened fingers ! Honest just watch you tube .......

( easy not to eat pizza - son is coeliac and doesnt really like the gf ones ! And I won't eat normal ones in front of him)

Incidentally, one look in the afore mentioned x12 magnification mirror and I can only imagine the beauty regime that would suddenly become necessary to simply get out the front door! Grin

Do not under any circumstances wax if you use retinol cream on the upper lip area. Dsis did and was scarred for days!

I go for electrolysis. That way it will eventually be permanent. I have light hair on top lip too but odd one is a but darker. So far do good!

Always interested to see that on these threads and similar on other sites. no-one says depilatory cream? that's what I use, works fine, is thinning my mostly-blonde, furry not wiry, moustache gradually too. There is a funny thing the next day when the serious bastard hairs on my chin poke through but they are easy to tweezer out. No doubt there was a big story that I missed about not Veeting (I am old enough to think "Immacing" every time) because it makes you grow horns or some such but worth a try?

my friend/neighbour is a beautician and she waxes my eyebrows, top lip and chin for me. I have been doing this for the past 12 months since turning 40 and since XH left, not that he left coz I have a 'tache I just felt like I had a dark shadow and I feel better for getting it done.

I still get the odd wiry black hair that needs plucking though (on my chin)

waxing doesnt hurt much once you are used to it
