Am I searching for the impossible? Trendy lace up shoes...

I have been diagnosed with a foot condition which means I have to mean an orthotic insole. It is made especially for me and to wear it I have to have flat lace up shoes Sad

Part of the reason for my foot problem is my love of unsuitable shoes so this is a bit of a shock to the system! I went to have a look at the shops today but they are all hideous!!

They need to be smart enough that I can wear to work, we wear office wear, black trousers, shirt etc so converse etc are out. Any ideas?

Search for a blog called en brogue. Lots of lovely flat shoes on that for ideas.

Charliefox · 02/03/2013 20:46

Flat flat? nothing like these?

landofsoapandglory · 02/03/2013 20:47

Brogues? Something like these?

I have brogues from Dune and they are so, so comfy but I have just done a quick search and they don't seem to have any black ones at the moment. IIRC the Clarks ones were really popular on here in the Autumn time.

landofsoapandglory · 02/03/2013 20:48

Sorry, wrong link Blush.

Brogues.

LynetteScavo · 02/03/2013 20:50

I think these are nicer in RL

If you usually wear heels, and change to flats, you might need to rethink the style of your trousers.

soaccidentprone · 02/03/2013 20:53

these?

MooseBeTimeForCoffee · 02/03/2013 20:54

Quirky and expensive but built to last!

AKissIsNotAContract · 02/03/2013 20:55

Kurt Geiger have some lovely brogues if your budget will stretch to them.

SocialButterfly · 02/03/2013 21:27

I know brogues are the way to go but they are just so clunky. I have found these but I will then only be able to wear clothes that go with pink shoes!

Why don't you go for the bone with the clarks -- those will work with more outfits than the pink.

Really travelin , why is it too narrow? I'm not sure I'm ready to look at the site you linked to! I looked a one page and feel a bit depressed!

What about dr martens ?

Vonnegut · 03/03/2013 17:31

I have plantar fasciitis, and wear a TalarMade Trio orthotic insert, and I have three pairs of those Clarks Hamble brogues that everyone is mentioning (oak, black patent, and blue suede). The insert fits fine, with no problems whatsoever.

I also have a few pairs of work shoes from Blue Velvet Shoes. Not terribly exciting or stylish though, but might be worth a look to see if there's anything suitable there.

And finally, for what it's worth, I quite often wear my black leather converse sneaks with a simple black suit to work, and think it looks quite sharp.

Good luck.

SocialButterfly · 05/03/2013 20:20

Thanks vonnegut that's really helpful.

I have ordered these for now and then maybe get some of the converse as well.

butterfly my feet are fucked but I have a really glam style, and I was equally gutted when the day came to pretty much give up the heels. Can't recommend the clarks' brogues highly enough. Some of them have sweet feminine styling and they literally feel like you're walking on air. Cons are great, and also, rocket dog ankle boots feel and look good too. My staple go-to brand is Kurt Geiger now, because they seem to have a deeper toe box than other brands, and lovely soft leather.

hugoagogo · 05/03/2013 21:20

My podiatrist reckons converse is about the worst thing you can wear. They are too flat and too thin, as are those ones you linked to I would say. [sorry]

Docs are a much better idea as are hotter, keen, camper, caterpillar, skechers can be good too, but they need to be the kind that have plenty of coverage; not just a ballet pump with a strap.
