Moroccan argan oil- am I using it wrong?

My first ever S&B post- I'm usually in pregnancy or prams!

I bought some Moroccan Argan oil stuff to magically transform me into a glossy haired goddess, and instead I just look like a greasy teenager...am I doing it wrong? I've been running a blob of it through my hair after towel drying.

Am I missing something amazing? Is there another way of doing it?

Or can I use the wretched stuff to do anything else??

Thanks in advance...I'm such a gullible lemming for buying these things and then losing interest in them just as quickly

I have been using this since Chistmas and to begin with it made it look really greasy.

I've got quite long (past shoulder blade) hair and I now only use two squirts - the instructions said 4-5 which I think is too much.

It seems to be working now - shiny hair not weighed down. I am now having to wash it every day and a half though - used to go for 2/3 days.
It's a trade off - it does seem to be making my hair better.

Had put the greasiness down to postnatally hormone wobbles but am now wondering!

Okay, a blob sounds like quite a lot - is the stuff you have semi-solid? Mine is totally liquid and I put literally one drop onto a palm, rub my palms together hard and then smooth those over the ends, not the roots or anywhere near them.

Alternatively you can put on a bit more and do that as a pre-wash conditioning treatment, perhaps in combination with other oils. I found that coconut oil and argan oil are nice together.

Lastly, are you using 100% argan oil or some sillicone-based product with a tiny bit of argan oil in it? As obviously that would be totally different and not as good.

Thank you both. It's by Organix (bought in Waitrose on impulse) and does seem to have lots of chemical sounding ingredients on the back, certainly not pure oil. It's liquid and says "use a small amount" on the back, and says to start at the ends and comb back through the hair.

Sounds like I'm using far too much but also expecting too much of it! I like the sound of using it as a pre wash deep conditioner. I've also got long hair so it's very easy for it to look really lank.

Thanks for the advice!

I use Moroccan Oil ( in the blue packaging). It is the best thing for my hair since sliced bread. (The sliced bread was far too messy)

Okay, if it has ingredient words ending on 'cone' on the back it has silicone in and will need a pretty good shampoo to remove it all at each wash. I wouldn't use a silicone product as a prewash treatment. You can buy tiny bottles of pure 100% argan oil on ebayif you want to give it a try, mine was quite cheap and still going strong.

And yes, when using a silicone as an after wash, apply to damp or wet hair in very tiny amounts and make sure it is distributed across your hands evenly before you apply. You can then always apply more when your hair is dry if you need it.

I love silicone but it's not great for hair condition long-term, and since I stopped using shampoos with SLS in I can't use it anymore as you need SLS to remove the silicone build-up. Bugger.

I've been using pure argan oil for a couple of weeks - it's made my hair a teensy bit oily & lank (but I actually prefer this to coarse & frizzy, and DH actually volunteered that my hair was noticeably softer!).

I worked out I had been using a bit too much, and have shampooed it out a bit.

However - it also made my hair staticy, which I have never had before, and shampooing hasn't got rid of this.
Anyone else had this? Was it because it was SO dry before that the oil soaked right in or something?

As well as products ending with -cone, there is this stuff called cyclopentasiloxane which is the main ingredient in every one of these new 'oil' products on the market including Moroccan Oil, Argan Oil and Extraordinary Oil. So far I havent found a single one that doesnt have this as its first ingredient and that includes the original blue package moroccan oil and various things calling themselves organic. Cyclopentasiloxane is a silicone, if your hair is curly avoid this stuff, dont be fooled oil it is not and it doesnt work on your hair the way an oil would normally. To be honest even bog standard olive oil from the chemists does my hair more favours than this stuff - tho it does smell delicious.

Hmmm - the one I use is 100% Argan Oil (Douvalls) (from TKMaxx Wink).
I was wondering if I should have got one of the ones with added ingredients.
