How can I get my longish fringe to behave (thick, wavy hair)

Help! It's just looks cr*p.

Any ideas. Is it worth wetting it down and blow drying it each morning or running straighteners through it? Am regretting getting it done cut in.

Every 2 years or so I get a fringe cut into my longish thick curly hair....and then spend the next 6 months growing it out (helpful).

However I am going to try the Brazilian blowdry stuff from amazon just to c if it calms it all down.

In the meantime, clips r your friend!

I walk around the house with a big velcro roller stuck in mine all the time. I sometimes forget to take it out when I go out though Blush

Get a slightly layered hair cut with sides that gradually go from the fringe on the front to the longest point in the back.

I straighten mine every day, takes about 1 minute

Does your hairdresser do free fringe trims? I find mine looks loads better and is easier to manage if I do this once or twice between cuts.
I also use dry shampoo and quickly go over it with straighteners in the morning if it looks really crap.

Hello sounds like I have the same hair as you I second the suggestion of a Brazilian blow dry. After longing for a glossy non frizzball swingy bob the only way I could achieve this was with a Brazilian blow dry. I have now grown my hair past my shoulders and found I did actually miss some of the volume that my natural hair has, so I basically let the Brazilian treatment disappear but found my long sideswept fringe drove me nuts so I just do the Brazilian treatment on my fringe myself. It has been a complete revelation for me my fringe remains under control but I have the volume and wave in the rest of my hair, somehow even when the rest of my hair goes frizzy having a tidy fringe keeps my hair looking better !!!

Sorry I didn't come back to thread! Thanks for your fabulous suggestions.

I've had it straightened with a treatment recently (L'Oreal Xtenso not Brazilian which I find a pain with the sodium chloride free shampoos and issues with chlorine if swimming) but I don't think it worked very well.

I will use my straightening irons and also see if the hairdresser can shape it better once I explain the problem.

Mrsap, I have already resorted to the clip thing just today but then I think it defeats the purpose of having the fringe to start with!!

It does in a way, but oddly I find the clip thing works better if there is a fringe, can't really explain it!

Interested in the Loreal thing. Am off to google it. Was it done at salon or DIY?

itstrainingmen · 28/02/2013 21:13

It was done at a salon. It was my third time with it and it has worked well before. It's probably slightly more drying than the Brazilian although really not too bad. I find it more practical as you go off and can then use any shampoo and not worry about chlorine etc. Except for some reason it hasn't worked so well this time. It was cheaper than a Brazilian too and lasts longer normally.
