Hand cream?

I currently have ishoos with really dry, red and cracked hands at the moment. Theyre quite painful.

Can anyone recommend me a really good handcream that isn't going to sting? Sad

Neutrogena unscented is good when your hands get really bad. Also I like Flexitol heel balm (you can get a hand version which I have seen recommended on other threads). If you happen to have any Lansinoh nipple cream (pure lanolin) that is great as an overnight treatment under gloves but pricey to go out and buy specially

I would also suggest switching from liquid soap to bars and always wearing gloves outdoors in this cold weather, both make a big difference to my hands.

The Flexitol handcream is excellent and clears horrid hands up really quickly.

Body Shop's hemp cream in a tube thing (sorry!) is really good. I have horrid hands in the winter and have just bought this today so unsure if it'll be any good. The lip balm is great though.

Lots of people seem to like the Body Shop Hemp - I'm in a minority because I don't think much of it.

The other one I've just thought of that I really like is Lush Dream Cream. However I've managed to keep my hands prertty Ok this winter which is when I first bought it and haven't tested it on really bad skin, but it does have lots of rave reviews all over the place, it's definitely good for skin that is just generally dried out.

Soap & Glory Hand Food is lovley

McBalls · 24/02/2013 20:40

Agree soap and glory hand food is good.

Have just discovered though that the very best thing for red sore hands is Vaseline. Obviously not good in daytime but at night rub in a big dollop, have done this the last two nights and the difference is amazing. I have had very rough patches around my nails all winter and they're gone now.

I have tried pretty much every hand cream going and due to lots of hand washing, I think the most important application is the one before bed - nothing I've ever tried has made such a, literally, overnight difference. I didn't even consider Vaseline as a moisturiser despite using it in my lips for the last 20 years!

Body shop hemp one is brilliant. It's fairly greasy but definitely fixes dry hands (only need one application a day). Absolutely recommend it.

Monstermashpotato · 24/02/2013 21:07

Ah thank you for your advice all of you.

My hands are awful due to a lot of handwashing, I think antibacterial liquid soap is causing the terrible reaction, maybe switching to barred soap would be beneficial as a pp suggested.

I found Lush Dream Cream to be quite stinging because my skin is broken..apparently it is fab though my mum loves it.

I have a big tube of S&G Hand Food I was just wary of putting it on, but will brave it!

I will try the vaseline tip tonight Thanks

If you really want to stick with liquid soap (I prefer it in the kitchen) then the only one I have found on the High Street that is really skin friendly is Dr Organic from Holland and Barrett. I think they have a tea tree version if you want anti-bac, I've only tried the Aloe Vera one so far, and have the Manuka honey bar in the bathroom.

Also think about your shampoo, a lot of them contain SLS which really dries the skin, there is another thread going about this today if you have a quick search.

Monstermashpotato · 24/02/2013 21:28

Thank you WhoKnows I will pop into H&B I had no idea they did soap

Monstermash Just a quick post to say that anti bacterial soap really isn't necessary, most bugs are viral and it doesn't counteract them but washing hands properly does. I really should take my own advice here as I use dettol stuff Grin

I have slight ocd around hand washing so my hands get really dry and cracked. I find Garnier hand creams are good esp the cocoa butter ones. I also like Jergens.

The Body Shop hemp one is good but I can't bear the smell personally!

reastie · 25/02/2013 14:06

You see I'm not going to agree with the Body Shop Hemp recommendations as when my hands are really sensitive that cream makes my hands red and itchy and botchy. I'm a huge fan of L'occitaine shea butter hand cream this one . It's expensive but amazing. The best hand cream. Ever.
