Has anybody had their skin 'read' at a Boots No7 counter?

With the little machine thing? Apparently over 400'000 women have since it launched.

Did it suggest something that has been good for you?

I have awkward skin and don't know if it would be a good idea - do they just scan your cheek? Because my skin there is very different to the skin elsewhere on my face.

I don't know, any advice?

It just recommends the closest colour match, which was the one I was using anyway.

Grockle · 23/02/2013 15:36

They did mine a couple of weeks ago...I think the colour it selected is about right.

sweetheart · 23/02/2013 17:09

I've had it done twice in 2 different stores and it came out with the same colour both times.

GingerKnit · 23/02/2013 17:14

I had it done when I wanted to change to a new foundation, and the match is very good. It's also the one I would have chosen if I'd been matching it myself, though, so I'm not sure how much trouble it saved me! I'd probably recommend it to someone who wasn't sure.

shesariver · 23/02/2013 17:31

Like Gingerknit, for me it picked the one I would have picked anyway! But Im a sucker for stuff like this and ended up buying their foundation this time rather than my usual Revlon so it worked Smile

Grockle · 23/02/2013 18:06

Yes - it got me to buy a new foundation, which is what I was looking for. BUT it also meant I bought a primer & a foundation brush which I was not looking for! However, having used them, I think that they are actually quite good & would probably buy the primer again.

TheWalkingDead · 23/02/2013 18:27

Yes, I had it done yesterday as they've changed the names of the colours, so I thought I'd see what I should be buying now. I've got the Stay Perfect foundation in Alabaster, and the machine matched me with Calico, which is the equivalent so when my one runs out I'll use that.

(I'm someone who has no clue wrt makeup)

I tried it. The suggested match was awful. Even the Boots lady was a bit embarrassed at how far off it was. She tried 4 other colours on me and the one she finally recommended looked chalky. I abandoned it before I got to the counter.

I'm sticking with my Lily Lolo

I did on three separate occasions and each one was different and ill matched. I think the first was cool beige, then it was Rose something or other and finally it was cool ivory I think. None of them matched. I took samples home and they were all too dark and pink. I had a real tidemark which rather defeats the purpose of the exercise. I was also unimpressed with the formulations. Even the matte one wasn't really that great in terms of coverage and the others, stay perfect I think was one, was just useless. They oxidised as well on my skin.

I now wear either Mac Nw20 or maybelline mousse foundation in Nude.

Seems a bit hit and miss then? Might give it a try and see if I can get a sample to try at home. Otherwise will stick with my Clinique. Thanks!Smile
