in the spring and summer ?

i seem to look ok ( well i hope ) in autumn and winter since i started buying less and better quality. i now have a couple of cashmere jumpers and good boots from john lewis which is an improvement ! and a nice coat.

i am struggling for spring and summer , i think because i need lighter colours which im not over keen on and because we wear less (sometimes !) so my layering and colour coordinating go out the window !

what should i look for and buy to seem well put together in a casualish sort of way ?

what do you think makes people look expensive and well...just great really ?

Sometimes I have things altered if they don't fit me, it does cost a bit obviously but if your clothes fit really well it makes such a difference to the overall look.

I used to have massive problems with jeans until low rise came in and they sat below the dodgy bit of my spine.

I am constantly being told I look put together when my main style achievement is getting dressed in under a minute. In a word: dresses.

Dont wear more than 2 colours in big chunks - either holiday skin (99p shop) or surgically thick opaques (ruthless re bobbles) - coat and bag in colours not neutrals - no hair accessories (death to style) except sunglasses - hair conditioner - a lone bit of jewellery.

Navy white and tan always look smart and groomed. And well put together people always look squeaky clean!

But agree simple,unfussy, well accessorized is nice

I look better in winter wear too.

I always have pedicured feet so I look shit from the ankle up but my feet look great. Combined with decent sandals and a light tan, my feet are definitely an asset in the summer

I wouldn't worry too much about summer clothes as mine seem to hardly get worn.

For spring - I wear lots of jeans with jackets or 'spring coats' - I got a lovely ivory one from Zara last year.

Also as others have said - accessories! So for me that's bags in nice colours and pretty sandals.

Oh and I know this isn't a popular opinion on here but use an iron or get someone to do it for you - light weight cottons/linens/voiles really do look better when pressed.

A good blow dry makes me feel well put together!

If you feel uncomfortable about baring your feet I would recommend a visit to the podiatrist. I went recently and it has been the best £36 I have spent in a long time!

yes , think a haircut is in order but no idea what i'll have . At the moment my hair is very long , almost one length , almost straight , blond highlighted , i part it at the side and use a kirby grip to keep it out of my eye .

never quite sure about jewellery , always seem drawn to colourful beads and the like which i suspect isnt very posh looking

I really don't aspire to looking expensive and well put-together. If that's the best anyone could say about me I would feel really...old!!! much prefer to try interesting colour combos or find an amazing top or dress, etc. And I also don't care if my unpedicured toes offend anyone! so there.

Clothes should be fun shouldn't they? rather than an endless laborious quest for natural fabrics in muted inoffensive tones.

Think I agree with mewkins to a certain extent. I like to have fun with clothes.

Buying the best you can afford will always make a difference.

I do like colour, but am not keen on polyester etc, not really because I want to look expensive but because I find it irritating.

But other than that, I just buy what appeals to me the most.

I don't think looking put together equates to old. The reverse actually.

Style is so personal - I like a classic groomed look so wouldn't be offended like mewkins but I know others prefer a more eccentric look.

How well put together you look just comes down to personality.

Some people really suit being very neat and others a bit more care-free. And you may as well go with what feels natural to you than not.

i would just like to have only a few items of clothing that i can mix and match but always feel great in . i have a casual lifestyle but want to still look good and feel confident wherever i am. i have wasted lots of money in the past buying things without thinking it through first so i want to buy the best i can now . have hardly anything at the moment for spring / summer after a big clearout .
not having a very happy time at the moment and good outfits make me feel better !

I also would like to look a bit put together in summer instead of having a constantly disheveled, creased and sweaty look, which is easy to do. Doesn't mean you can't also wear fun stuff.

May I suggest Zara's new S/S range - it's gorgeous. A bit ethnic-y, some great spring jackets and coats in short and mid-length, cropped trousers (tapered) and long floaty trousers. They also have a range that seems to be designed to straddle winter/spring or cold summers which is oriental. I've been buying pieces from there pretty much weekly and now have bits that I don't have to think about. They look pretty expensive as they're well-designed, but were easy on the purse.

Also, COS (if you have access to one) is great - looks designer, without the prices. You can't go wrong with a dress or separates. In summer they simply seem to use lighter fabrics, so there's never that, "Why the frack is everything suddenly hotpants?!" moment.

Also, I pretty much only wear monochrome, or monochrome with one piece of colour - summer or winter. I could happily dress in the dark - minimised mistakes!

NO TO LINEN TROUSERS

As a short-arse I find it much easier to look put-together in the winter months when I can wear long boots which slim and lengthen the legs and my beloved platform boots which give me much needed inches. I've never found a pair of summer heels or wedges that could actually be worn comfortably and walked around in all day, so I always end up in flat sandals which make me feel short and frumpy. If anyone has found a summer shoe which adds height and can be worn all day with bare feet, then please tell me.

I also agree absolutely no to linen trousers. That creased round the thigh look after sitting down a while is really unflattering.

Less is more! I was about to invest in a new wardrobe when I found out I was pregnant with DC2 (now 29 weeks) so am trying to get away with buying as few clothes as possible in anticipation of a post baby make over.
Am always told I l
