Ok so I've seen it raved about on here, I've read the website and finally got round to giving it a bash. I have horrendous skin, über sensitive, spotty, half scaly and half oily and rosacea (I do sound attractive Hmm ) and have tried more lotions and potions than the average branch of Boots all of which make my skin inflammed and sore. I have almond oil already and had my first attempt this morning and for once I didn't leave the bathroom with a glowing red face so that progress ar least

My questions are
How many times a day do you do it?
If once, is morning or night best?
If once, do you use other products at the other time?
Do you moisturise afterwards? With oil or something else?
Giving that my skin reacts to everything should I try castor oil is is it just asking for trouble?
How many times do you rinse?

Thanks for your help, I'm really at my wits end with my skin, at 38 I really thought horrible yucky teenage skin that flakes on my chees would be behind me!

Never done the OCM before, but I would guess that it would be better done at night when the skin repairs and renews itself.

AFAIK the OCM is used to help the person's skin rebalance its oil production.

I'd be interested in the OCM myself as I have combination and sensitive skin and have coconut oil to start with. I'm waiting to hear from someone else who knows about all this stuff.

Spookey80 · 23/02/2013 14:34

I have been doing ocm for about a year now, I love it.
I do it in the evenings, then wash my face as normal in the mornings.
I do it every other night as found I couldn't be bothered with every night,.and it was a bit too much for my skin.
I use a castor oil, sweet almond oil mix, about 30/70. Get pure organic, cold pressed stuff from the health food shop or amazon.
I put it on then use the muslin to remove. I cut up old baby Muslims into 4s.
I then use really hot water to remove.
Afterwards I moisturise as normal.
It is good, and I have seen an improvement in my skin,, but I am still not lucky enough to have amazing skin iyswim,., it can't do everything. But it is better than it was.
If your skin is very irritable I think it will be good for you.

I've been using OCM for about a year. I have combination screen and use a 30:70 mix of castor oil and sweet almond. I use this in the evening and moisturise with the sweet almond, it has a small amount of Vit E added to it. In the mornings I use honey, about half a teaspoon massaged onto my face, leave for a couple of mins then rinsed off in the same way as OCM. Feels a bit weird to begin with, but it is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. The combination of these 2 has made my skin the best it's ever been. I don't have anymore open pores, blackheads and when I do get the odd spot (generally just before time of the month), they don't last as long as they used to.

I'd recommend that you look here for advice on which oils work best with which skin types, it's also where I heard about the honey wash. crunchybetty.com

I do it in the evenings too, with just a rinse in the shower in the mornings. I find castor quite drying but fine 30:70 with jojoba oil (oily / combination skin). Through winter I've had to moisturise but that's probably because of.central heating and car heating.

I don't get spots anymore on my face, but I still do behind my ears (eugh!)

INeedThatForkOff · 23/02/2013 15:23

What kind of honey, prawntoast?

ivegotaniphone · 23/02/2013 15:27

I've been doing it about 2 years, just with plain olive oil. Just a rinse in the shower in the mornings. I moisturise with a ccream I make myself using olive oil, shea butter, water and this emulifier Best skin i have ever had in my life

SaladIsMyFriend · 23/02/2013 15:35

I've been doing it for six months now and my skin has improved loads. I also cut up old baby muslins, and use olive oil with a little castor and almond oils mixed in, evenings only. Nice hot water, and I keep rinsing as long as I can be bothered to. Then rosehip oil to moisturise.

In the morning I use just plain water or a very mild facial soap (no SLS/parabens/alcohol in it), then a gentle moisturiser on top.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Couldn't believe how cheap the castor and sweet almond oil was, so I've ordered some (and some Vit E oil)!

Fingers crossed it works for me.

Prawntoast · 23/02/2013 17:00

ineed, I just use organic honey, squeezy bottle easiest to get it out. costs about £3.50. The oils costs around £12, I use organic castor from Amazon and sweet almond oil from Holland & Barratt, saves me loads-used to use Lancôme. Would say that I'd been advised not use conventional cleansers at all if using OCM as it confuses the skin and you won't get the full benefits.

SaladIsMyFriend · 23/02/2013 17:01

I might try the honey in the mornings Prawntoast it sounds fab, and I bet you smell lovely Smile

Prawntoast · 23/02/2013 17:06

Coconutty, I massage the oil into my skin for maybe a minute, concentrating on my t zone, but then leave it on while I brush my teeth etc, then rinse off with a face cloth using hot water.

I do the same with the honey.

I've also discovered the delight of the avocado face mask, just mash half an advocado up and smear all over your face, leave for 10 mins, rinse off with warm water, skin lovely and soft.

Prawntoast · 23/02/2013 17:08

salad, it is worth it, it does feel odd as it's so sticky so make sure you hair is well tied back!

SaladIsMyFriend · 23/02/2013 17:24

Sorry Prawntoast but couldn't waste good avocado like that, but will def try the honey thank you!

bigbuttons · 23/02/2013 17:28

spookey80 " I cut up old baby Muslims into 4s." really? is that more effective than using a flannel? Wink

INeedThatForkOff · 23/02/2013 17:29

I bought 250 ml castor oil last June - should last my until this June Smile I'm going to add the honey in the morning and the avocado mask. Definitely no other cleansers - I break out if I do.

I would recommend getting a small bottle to store smaller quantities of the mixed oils in (say 50ml in total). The first time I mixed loads and it started to go mouldy!

Can anyone recommend an anti-wrinkle additive or extra? I've been using protect & perfect intense lately, but haven't seen a difference and it's ££.

INeedThatForkOff · 23/02/2013 17:30

bigbuttons, muslin is recommended as flannel is more abrasive and can stimulate oil. I think.

bigbuttons · 23/02/2013 17:41

I was pointing out that spookey wrote muslim not muslin! She might get into trouble for cutting up old baby muslims, just a thought.

Carrotcakeisace · 23/02/2013 17:59

Thanks for all the advice off to check out Prawn's link

SaladIsMyFriend · 23/02/2013 18:55

INeedThatForkOff you could try Rosehip oil as anti-wrinkle cream? I put a few drops on my face before bed and rub a little in before my moisturiser in the morning and loads of people have commented on my skin looking younger Smile

INeedThatForkOff · 23/02/2013 19:19

Doh!

Thanks salad. I'll look into it. According to Crunchy Betty, raw honey is the business. Think I'll leave it a while though as I have a 16 week old and am paranoid Grin
