Blusher virgin

Hi

I have never worn blusher! I am 39 so this is quite embarrassing as I have no idea what colours would suit me and does it make a real difference in brightening a face? I have medium pale skin tone, naturally a brunette but have golden highlights and brown eyes. Could anyone recommend a brand or colour?

Thanks v much

I would go to a Mac counter and ask to try a few.
take it from there.

It really does make a difference! Blusher was such a revelation for me. I need quite a light shade as I am v fair skinned - beware of deep toned ones if you don't have much colour.

Defintely go to a decent counter help, to avoid the main three bad blusher looks:

Dangerously high blood pressure
Adam ant stripes
Geordie shore poo brown

Visit a Bobbi Brown counter and ask their advice on a natural looking blush. You can ask them to try one (or two, one on each cheek) but you don't need to buy them. Tell the salesperson that you need to see how they look in natural light and how they wear over a few hours.

I love Nars blushers, which can look scarily bright in the pan, but apply very sheerly. Get a good blusher brush - Real Techniques is lovely and not expensive, don't use the crappy little brush that might come with the blusher.

I'd second the MAC recommendation. They have a really wide range of cream and powder blushes, and the counter ladies are very good at what they do.

I think creamy stick blushers are the way forward and you don't need a brush. Just swipe some on and blend. I like Clinique ones but due to budgetary constraints have just bought a No7 one which is far sheerer but ok, perfectly fine for day.

I also have medium-pale skin & brown hair. My everyday blusher is MAC's 'Something Special'.

Cream blush is an easy way to start and as others have said, MAC blushers are extremely good (I've got 5 of their cream blushes!) and the sales assistants will show you how to apply it.

Another vote for Real Techniques brushes (in Boots, normally near the nail files, eyelash glue etc.). You can use your fingers to apply cream blush, but I recently bought their stippling brush and this has been a revelation for putting my cream blush, highlighter and foundation on; everything blends seamlessly with this brush; I love it.

If you want something slightly cheaper, the Sleek powder blushers in Superdrug are very good. Rose Gold and Life's A Peach are in my collection.

My favourite blush that lasts ages and looks natural is Benefit ChaCha tint blended quickly with real technique stipple brush.
Lasts all day.
