Sorry, another wedding one - are trousers a complete faux pax?

I remember Gavin a rather heated discussion with a friend about the suitableness of trousers to weddings, so I'm not sure I trust my judgement

I've come to the conclusion that I just don't do dresses, I love loads, but they jus don't suit me unless they're casual summery maxi dresses.

I've got a wedding coming up the beginning of April and saw these on ASOS (the nude ones)

I thought I could wear them with a white silk shirt, black blazer, black heels and maybe a black clutch

Yay or nay?

If I could get away with trousers like this id wear them. Outfit sounds lovely.

Definite yay!

freddiefrog · 17/02/2013 23:16

I don't know if I can get away with them yet, I may look a complete dick in them Grin

I also like these

Both/either would be fine for a wedding, if glammed up as you suggest.

freddiefrog · 17/02/2013 23:32

Ooh, just noticed the random Gavin in my op, should've been having. I don't know anyone called Gavin

Yeah either would be fine for a wedding, styled right. At a guess the second ones stand more chance of being flattering on a mere mortal.

janmoomoo · 18/02/2013 10:26

Normally I would say no, but those look very nice and I think you could style them up. Nice.

freddiefrog · 18/02/2013 10:46

Thanks!

I've ordered both to see how they look

I prefer the look of the top ones, but I don't like then with the top tucked in. I've got a white shirt which comes to about half way down my bum, but I'm not sure if that would have too much drapey fabric in the stomach/bum area and look too casual.

The top ones look a bit too harem for me to be smart enough for a wedding, but if styled right, I guess it'd be ok. The second pair look smarter.

We had people wear trousers to our wedding, and I can't say I noticed (in fact the only ones I could name would by my SIL (who looked lovely) and that's only because we have the photo out with her in it.

But I do think no black at weddings (although if only a jacket it's not so bad, although likely to be the only thing you can see in photos).

freddiefrog · 18/02/2013 11:34

I saw a silvery-grey blazer on one of the websites I was on earlier (they've all blurred into one now Confused ) that I quite liked.

Will go back and hunt

Definitely-like you I rarely wear dresses and think trousers can look very chic at a wedding.

comelywenchlywoo · 18/02/2013 12:03

I say go for it, trousers can look really elegant, but I agree with other posters who suggest looking for an alternative to a black jacket - might be a bit too heavy as well as the whole "no black to a wedding" thing.

EuroShagmore · 18/02/2013 12:03

I think trousers for a wedding is fine, but they are maybe a bit casual? I guess it depends on the wedding.

YouOldSlag · 18/02/2013 12:08

I think trousers can look good at a wedding and as far as I know, there is no etiquette about it.

I would agree with others though, no black. Navy and white always looks timeless and can be worn again. If you style it right to avoid looking officey I think you can definitely wear trousers to a wedding. Some pretty and frivolous heels would do the job.

freddiefrog · 18/02/2013 16:35

Thanks!

I don't really suit navy in a block colour, I look better in blushes, nudes and pale pinks. I did find a silvery grey blazer yesterday which I quite liked, but I can't find it now

I prefer the colour of the 1st pair, the 2nd pair look a little too coral-y/peachy.

I don't know now Confused. I'm going proper shopping on Friday so I'll see what I can hunt out

As long as you look smart and like you've made an effort no one will mind what you're wearing. I often wear black.to a wedding and other guests do too. No one has mentioned it. We had a friend turn up in jeans to our wedding. We are just pleased he could come.

CointreauVersial · 18/02/2013 22:30

I think the first pair you linked to would need a fitted or tucked-in top, or you risk looking a little bulky. If you don't want to do a full tuck-in, try a "half-tuck"; just tuck in a small section of you top at the front/side.

Gives you a bit of shape, but still hides lumps and bumps!

CointreauVersial · 18/02/2013 22:31

"your" top....

SofaCanary · 18/02/2013 22:35

LOL, I got married in an ivory tuxedo, nobody told me trousers at a wedding were a no go Grin
