I've dropped 2 dress sizes now I need new clothes, and some help.

I've realised I really need to buy some new clothes. I've dropped 2 dress sizes and have very little that still fits me. I live in jeans and t-shirts most of the time so I can get away with it, but it isn't really flattering my new shape.

So what basics do I need? Its been a while since I have updated my wardrobe so I need help.

I normally go for M+S, primark, H+M but would happily buy one or 2 more expensive pieces. I'm now a size 12, hour glass figure, waist 29" so maybe a 10 in some trousers. (I'm guessing, I wore an old size 12 dress last night that I found in the back of my wardrobe, 16 years old and it is a bit big on the hips :) )

I suppose a jacket would be a good idea: this?

I think I need at least one dress, looking at this perhaps:

But I don't know what to do about tops, or trousers, or skirts. I'm not very good at this.

Yay, congratulations on the weight loss. Have you any friends whose style you like who will let you try on lots of their clothesto get an idea of what shapes suit you? If you live within reachable distance of a big centre such as Westfield, I'd suggest a day out trying lots ogling different things on (take a friend with a good eye who's not afraid to say no to something you love). What you need depends on your taste, budget, lifestyle.

Have fun.

Wow well done on the weight loss - I think John Lewis and Debenhams do a free personal shopper service, they suggest things that you would not try on for yourself normally, and there is no obligation to buy.

Well done on the weight loss!

I have recently gone down from a size 20 to a size 12/14. I was completely lost to begin with as obviously none of my old clothes fitted but also I wasn't quite sure what suited my new shape.

I started by buying basics - jeans, plain tops, cardis, black trousers etc and then getting cheap accessories to mix it up a bit and stop me getting bored of having so few clothes. I tried on a ton of stuff and pinned lots of ideas to Pinterest for inspiration. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but it is fun finding out what suits you now.

Thanks jemima I'd forgotten about pinterest, I usually use it for recipes :)

Basics probably is the place to start. I have 2 pairs of skinny trousers I bought in December and one pair of jeans that I can wear, but even they are starting to get a bit loose. Hardly anyone has noticed I've lost weight and I'm sure it is because it is hidden under my old baggy clothes.

I found that people only really started commenting on my weight loss once I started wearing clothes that fit me properly Grin

I have been going very much for cheap and cheerful high street (New Look, H&M etc) for the time being until I'm sure my body has settled at a size and shape.
