Botox?

mumblechum1 · 15/02/2013 15:51

Looked in the mirror this morning and an angry looking old bag looked back at me Grin so I think the time has come for drastic measures to sort out my frown lines.

Have looked at a website for a botox place in my nearest town but it's £200 a pop - is this the going rate?

Any experience/advice/recommendations gratefully received.

I pay £240 for three areas, forehead , around my crows feet and the frown lines.

mumblechum1 · 15/02/2013 16:51

Thanks Sugarice, that doesn't seem too bad compared to £200 for just one area.

How long does the effect last, would you say?

mines 125 an area

Ooh, I wouldn't choose a Botox practioner on price or location! Bear in mind it is perfectly legal for a person without medical training to inject you. Plenty of places do that to keep costs down (thus providing Daily Mail with rich source of 'my botox disaster' stories, too, no doubt). A fully qualified doctor who does cosmetic procedures all day, every day is by far your best bet.

If you have never had this treatment before then it's worth getting started with someone highly experienced and learning how the botox affects your face. Also, you want a doctor who can look at you carefully as an individual, who will ask you want you want to acheive, and tailor the treatment carefully. Not someone who just whacks 25 units into your forehead, the same as everyone else gets. Each injection will last 3 to 9 months depending on the strength of the muscles (some facial muscles are stronger than others) and the amount used. Have a bit of a search on here, doctors in Berks/Bucks have been mentioned and discussed.

It lasts about 6 months on me and I've been having it for about 4 years, I'm 44.

It's well worth the money imo, I look rested and he injects very small amounts, not enough to give me that ultra smooth porcelain complexion but enough to iron out some of the creases if that makes sense.

I still have expression but I look fresh, well I think I do anyway.

Tracey Mountford has an excellent reputation if you choose to look her up.

Thank you very much. The website I looked at this morning does use qualified doctors "98% of the time". Confused which I guess is good enough.

I haven't had any experience with them, but they seem to have a good reputation.

I pay roughly £250 for 2 areas - forehead and frown lines. Love it - makes me look fresh and revitalised rather than 'frozen'. Admittedly my forehead doesn't actually move very much but no one has ever noticed

I used to go to a Dr who never seemed to get it right first go. Always had to go back 7-10 days later for her to top up on one side to even out my eyebrows when raised. Use someone one else now and he is amazing

Definatlely worth looking around and researching - price isn't an indicator of how good someone is (unless its £99 in a back street beauty salon - definatlely avoid in that case). Bad Botox can look awful. Brilliant Botox and you can look amazing

FaffTastic · 16/02/2013 01:35

Oh, and I think he charges £160-180 for one area. Each additional area works out cheaper hence why I pay £250 for 2 areas.

Branleuse · 16/02/2013 14:37

i wear much less makeup since i started getting it. just takes away the tired haggard look

noddyholder · 16/02/2013 14:40

I pay £225 for one area. Lasts about 5/6 months I am bereft when it wears off (like now) When it is in full swing I wear little make up and look a lot better! Make up and creams etc cannot even begin to match the effect. I am also headache-less which is amazing in itself.

mumblechum1 · 16/02/2013 16:39

OK, thanks everyone. Have decided to go for walnutcakes recommendation as Tracy Mountfield seems to get really good reviews and I think is relatively local.

Smile Looking forward to my new look; am getting lash extensions done soon too; hitting 50 has made me realise I'm not ready to be an old lady just yet!

Mumble first time I had botox I had lash extensions too! It was am amazing effect

BobbiFleckmann · 16/02/2013 16:44

I go to Tracy Mountford and yes she's local to you. I see Janine there. It's ludicrously expensive but it works a treat on those vertical frown lines between the eyebrows. makes a big difference and lasts maybe 9 months. Janine does always give the hard sell to come back every 3 months but her reasoning never seems to quite stack up and so i go less frequently

mumblechum1 · 16/02/2013 16:44

Smile I'm getting quite excited now!
