I was reading threads on here and someone mentioned Lily Lolo mineral foundation. I'm not in the least bit 'brand aware' and had no real idea what mineral foundation was. Anyway, I looked at the website and bought the little sample selection pack. It is incredible stuff, so light and easy to use and after years of being unsatisfied with foundation I now how one that I love! I've only just started dipping into Style and Beauty and I have to say there are lots of really good threads. Smile

I love Lily Lolo too, have recommended it a few times on here! Has made my problem skin a lot better.

I used the blusher and concealer as well now, they're also fab Smile

I love it too, glad it's working out for you. I remember being surprised the first time I tried it - how easy it was. And yes, there are many brilliant tips to be found on S&B :)

I tried some samples of their mineral foundation but I couldn't get on with it. I didn't like how it felt on my skin (dry and a bit itchy) and it accentuated the lines around my eyes. Maybe it is better for younger skin (I am 46) or maybe I wasn't applying it properly? Does anyone have any tips?

The thing is, I really wanted to like it, because it is genuinely not tested on animals. What is the rest of their make-up like? Has anyone tried their mascara or eyeshadows ?

Hi Freshasa, I am 42 so not too far behind you, my skin is dry, very sensitive, and I get breakouts on chin and cheeks, and have scarring from acne from years ago. So a bit of a nightmare, but much improved with mineral foundation.

I would say moisturise well, give your moisturiser a good 10 minutes to soak in, and build the powder up gradually in layers - don't put lots on your skin at once. I tend to brush a thin layer into my skin, brush the concealer into any problem areas, then another light layer of the foundation.

I have tried their eyeshadows but couldn't get on with them - dropping bits of powder into my eyes really irritated them.

Hope this helps!

Glad you like it. I've also recommended it on here. Freshasa I used the foundation for years but over the last year it just hasn't looked as good on me. I'm 52. I used to get complements all the time about how glowing my skin looked but suddenly it just didn't seem to give the same finish on me. I still use the blusher though which I love. Cherry Blossom at the moment.

I've tried a few LL eyeshadows but can't seem to find a colour that's right for me - either too light or too dark or too matt or too shimmery! Not tried their mascara but have tried the lipgloss. It's nice but a bit sticky. Though most glosses seem sticky. My dd has used their foundation and finishing powder for 3 or 4 years and really likes them. She has quite acne prone skin. Their prices are so good and they are so quick sending stuff out. They've done v well to compete with the big brands.

I really love their shimmery eyeshadows. I bought them years ago when you could get a sample for pennies in a small bag and they are still fine. Golden lilac is my favourite, the gold undertones are so pretty.

Hi Salad, Thanks for the tip about letting moisturiser settle, perhaps that was part of the problem. I?ve never used any mineral foundation before so I didn?t know what effect it is supposed to give, how much to apply, or what shade was right for me even though I tried a couple of different ones. I have always used Chanel or Estee Lauder liquid foundations but as I said above, I would rather use a cruelty free brand. Perhaps I?Il get another sample and try again. The concept of powder concealer seems strange ? do you just apply it with a small brush?

Carbondated ? you mentioned your dd uses the finishing powder - what is that for ?

It?s such a pity it?s only online brand, but the prices are reasonable enough to take a risk with some eyeshadows or a lippy.

The finishing powder sort of sets your foundation and gives a glow to your skin. DD uses the silk finish rather than the matte and I used to use that too. I think it does make a bit of a difference. I think they do sample sizes of that so maybe worth getting it to see if you like it. I am tempted to try one of their lipsticks. Shame you can't actually see them in the flesh to see what the colour/texture is like though I agree. But prices are reasonable enough to take a punt as you say. I've gone on to Dior Nudeskin now and it seems more flattering to my pre-menopausal skin I think. YY to giving moisturiser time to really absorb before you apply mineral foundation. A primer really makes a difference too, as does really buffing the foundation in thoroughly

SaladIsMyFriend · 12/02/2013 18:57

I put the concealer on with their concealer brush - it works really well. For very bad scars/spots I use a MAC concealer and just "set" it with the Lily Lolo powder on top.

But since using the Lily Lolo my skin has got so much better I find I am needing to wear less and less foundation.

I once had a dream that a Lily Lolo shop had opened in the Arndale in Manchester, it was a lovely little shop. So disappointed when I woke up Grin
