Small boy-proof Autumn/WInter V neck tops ideas needed

Hello

As some of you may know, I now live in Australia. Sunny? Yes. Lots of Fresh Air? Yes. Good at sports? Yes. Decent fashion stores? NO! Angry

I just don't know where to start with buying clothes, I can't find a store that is targeted at my age (30s) without ending up being frumpy or mutton.

I need V necks, preferably slightly tailored as my norks are bigger than my waist, and the tops need to go with jeans and casual trousers and stand up to chasing small boys round adventure playgrounds and being jumped on at that difficult hour between tea and bath.

What, in that vein, has served you well? Ideas please

Come on, v-neck tops must be available there in Au, they're not completely backwards! Two cheap-ish shops which I've been to in NZ are Jeans West and Glassons - the latter a kind of Topshop ie for the young, but has cheap tops, I bought lots of t-shirts there. Do you have a Max? This is a NZ chain that is slightly more upmarket but still not Country Road (which I found good for work suits when I used to buy such things, not perhaps what you're looking for). Esprit has outlets in NZ/Au as well. Will try to remember some other brand names, but it was 22yrs ago I lived in Sydney!

Or was it Just jeans? Something like that.

Hi Florence UK, how are you? Haven't seen you around for a long time? Yes, they are available and not it's not completely backwards, just not easy to wade through new brands and fit my body at it's pre-pregancy size for the first time in 5.5years. If it was 22 years ago I would have no problem but I find myself in that twilight zone of late 30s.

Thanks for the offer Cod.maybe I could pick your style brains about that style: the outline would be suitable but with a tight fitting self-coloured garment I always feel as if I 'm just saying "here are my norks, look, up here!" I feel with pattern or maybe different coloured sleeves it would be a less obvious presentation. Don't get me wrong, I 'm proud of my norks, just looking for a style that is slightly less norkish. Embroidery or beading is the answer I guess.

Anyway, I shall persevere, and also take up Sunchowder's kind offer of a Gap handling order.

Hi Suzy - I have to admit I am even older than you and not very a la mode, so I am not really qualified to comment on this thread! However pattern or coloured sleeves sounds very Boden-ish - have you looked at their site? I have splashed out on 15% discount and ordered this top: \link{http://www.boden.co.uk/col.asp?styid=WL305&segname=Women&segid=6&gpname=Jersey+Tops&desname=Crinkle+Jersey+Shirt&gpid=27&gen=&col=LPK\spotty top} which might work for you. There are lots of wrap tops on there as well. Putting a pretty wrap top over a sturdy vest or t-shirt looks nice without being too revealing in my (limited) exp. Good for flabby tums too.
