Really badly cracked skin around around my nails

In winter I get painful cracked skin around my nails, currently my thumb and one finger have deep cracks beside the nail and are agony. They take ages to heal too, does anyone get this and have any remedies?

Flexitol! You can get stuff for hands and cuticles (Amazon) but I just use the foot one.

Lotil. Pharmacist recommended, best thing without a prescription. If Lotil doesn't work then you're into the realms of hydrocortisone creams but they can cause skin thinning so future problems.

Daughter was prescribed diprobase which is also good but I find Lotil sinks in better. Slather it on at night, put a pair of cotton gloves on, great improvement by morning. Its best if you try to use after you wash your hands during e day as well until your skin is looking better, then take. Down to a good application before bed.

I get this too - once the splits/cracks start to feel like they are healing up a bit I use the germolene new skin liquid plaster. It stings a bit initially but really helps as it coats the crack with a protective surface. Plus then always using washing gloves and applying handcream. I feel your pain.

Lotil doesn't sting too badly either, even on cracked, bleeding skin. One thing I found for really deep cracks, salon and a plaster overnight helped. Also, if you can (carefully) snip some of the hardened skin either side of the crack (I use nail clippers to just skim the surface) it seems to really help! Counterintuitive I know, I've got cracked bleeding skin so I'll cut a bit more off! It is literally just the top layer, I find its less painfull as soon as I've done it and I can't feel it as I'm cutting as it is literally the top old layer of skin.
