Help - need really good moisturiser!!

I used to use Clinique's Comfort on Call but apparently they stopped making it. (Grr)....

Anyway, I am going to Norway shortly, where it will be bastard cold and my dry, redhead's skin (though I didn't get the hair - skipped my generation and dd did) will turn to parchment unless I can find a really, really good skin cream.

I'm tempted to say money no object but knowing how expensive face creams can be I'll cap it at £50 a jar. I need the sort of thing a person with normal skin would use when tackling Everest. Preferably with the texture of lard.

Chanel beaute initiale is great around £50-60 I think, also clarins vital light day is lovely but so are all their other ones also around that price - I'd imagine the clarins ones are better for a more intensive moisurising - the night ones great too and might be helpful to have just to soak in and keep your skin soft overnight!

Norwegian ultimate moisture day cream. Comes in a kind of wide flat tube, in a cardboard box. I think £7/8. SPF 10. You'll never look back. Sinks in easily (so not lard) and even now I catch myself stroking my cheek to test the softness!!!

Clarins for very dry skin or cold climates, is fantastic and smells lovely. £33

The blue pot of Nivea, the really thick one. Can't beat it for intensive moisture IMO.

Astral moisturiser is glorious stuff. You can get it in Tesco, Boots, Superdrug for about £3 a tub. I have dehydrated, sensitive skin but Astral makes my skin look positively dewy. I also use Superdrug own brand serum ( the one for dehydrated skin) underneath - it's great and only costs about £3 as well.

Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter is good as an overnight treatment if your skin feels sore or rough.

Also drinking lots of water will help combat dehydration from the cold

Save your money - use Astral it's brilliant and has a lovely light clean fragrance.

I am very pale with dry skin. I am really impressed by this Akamuti stuff, after years of trying super expensive stuff

Thanks all! Have used Nivea and Astral in the past but they make me itchy (I have eczema as well, oh deep joy). I'll take a look at the Akamuti / Norwegian and beg a Clarins sample from debenhams to take a look. I quite like the feel of something that sits on the skin rather than all going in at once, as the barrier actions seems to make it last longer. Have started using Nuxe oil at night also, so this may help....

you could try searching online for free clarions samples, i know sometimes you can get stuff like that online, but unsure of particular sites that are any good!

Anything by Avene in Boots should fit your bill. They are brilliant moisturisers for dry and sensitive skins. You don't need to spend Clinique prices to get something good (have also used that Clinique moisturiser in the past and also have eczema!). I also use Aveeno cream which is fab and definitely has a barrier effect.

Eucirin is fab-v moisturising, cheap on amazon and suitable for sensitive skin.

Dermalogica barrier repair might work
Blurb on back says "soothes irritation caused by environmental assaults. Evening primrose oil, Shea butter, shields against future damage"

It feels almost silicone in that it sort of absorbs and sits?

Second the Dermalogica barrier repair - am 26 weeks pregnant now but used to hope to keep run a lot. This sorted my skin through cold weather.
