I've done something awful to my hair - help

Life's been rather fraught recently and in the midst of a Britney style meltdown stupid blip yesterday I pulled my lovely, nearly waist length hair into a ponytail and hacked it off with the kitchen scissors. I now have a just above chin length, ragged bob (although that's unfair to bobs, on the whole).

I know I need to address the bigger issue, which I am doing, but can someone please tell me either that a hairdresser isn't going to back away slowly if I tell her what happened, or give me a convincing lie to tell her. Also, convince me that this will, in the long run, be liberating and that short hair is very 'in' now Sad

This is the start of a brave new controlled happy you. Very long hair can be beautiful but it's easy for it to take over your life and it can be very unflattering, especially as you mature. A hairdresser will be delighted to create a flattering shiny glossy healthy haircut just for you. Go for it.

Thanks Purple. It's odd, I didn't realise how much comfort it gave me, that sounds weird I know, I keep reaching for it and getting wispy ends instead. I'm going to try and look at it as a new beginning, and how you phrased it in your post was really nice, thank you Smile

New hair, New start. Just tell the hairdresser it was annoying you and you decided just to lop it off.

Nothing looks healthier than a short shiny Bob, you'll love it when a hairdresser finishes it off for you.

Good luck!

I did it a few years back and told the hairdresser I was just having a bad hair day, we both laughed and she said I'd be surprised at how often it happened Smile

Thanks Fox. I'm not convinced that I've got enough left for it to be bobbed but I'm sure we'll work something out!

Snickers, I feel so much better now, thanks!

Relax... I do this on a regular basis. It will be fine, even of you don't like it short it will have grown in no time at all.

One of the more recent times I stressed out and hacked my hair I cut it so short the bits at the nape of my neck were less than an inch long Blush that was October and despite cutting it once more since then it's shoulder length again now.

If you'd feel better lying to the hairdresser tell her a child got chewing gum in your hair and it was so tangled in you had to hack it all off.
