Are we really not going to slammed with import tax?

So many of my fave US stores are now saying shipping to the UK with no added import fees.

Can this really be true?

Whenever I order from Hollister, I never pay fees regardless of order size. £10 postage though.

Which sites? I've ordered from Shopbop and have been charged customs. The rules haven't changed have they? So it must be something dodgy.

Hmm it was shop bop I was looking at. They have this shopbop global thing says you don't get charged.

Just out of interest is the customs charge extortionate?

Hollister have a UK base which is why you don't get charged

I've ordered from Shopbop and they give you two options - the first is where you pre-pay a customs charge so there's nothing extra to pay when you accept delivery, and the second is where you pay the customs on delivery.

For example, if I bought a pair of jeans for $98, I'd pay an extra $21.60 "customs and duties deposit". If you don't pre-pay, I think some of the delivery companies charge extra for "handling charges" - plus it's often held up for ages when it arrives in the UK

At JCrew it's automatically added at checkout

It's definitely worth pre-paying in my opinion. Saves a lot of hassle, and you know what it's going to end up costing you
