Ask them for their advice.
I went in the other day and came out with advice on how best to dye it, what colour, how long for and a generous sample to do a stand test first.

Yes, they are really helpful. Most stores have a member of staff that uses it (and has amazingly shiny hair).

Maybe a mix of caca brun and caca marron might work. Brun on its own is a touch dark for me, but I am mid brown so might be ok if you're dark brown. The indigo has faded a bit now though and I have a lovely subtle red sheen.

I have found though that it hasn't taken on the greys too well so after I try touching up the roots with what I have left then I'm going to try buying the henna and indigo from HennaBoy and doing my own mix.

Oh and I used 4 of the six blocks for shoulder length hair and left it on about 3 hours.

hushabyehill · 31/01/2013 20:24

I use 2 blocks for my very fine shoulder length hair and leave it on for about 8 hours (or as near to that as I can stand!) wrapped in clingfilm and a towel, and I get great grey coverage.

Wrigglebum · 31/01/2013 20:38

That's interesting hush, I think grey coverage is possibly down to the hair rather than the dye sometimes. Even chemical dyes don't seem to get all of mine sometimes, they're really resistant. I did read online that lush henna was more prone to fading than mixing henna and indigo yourself.

I'll try leaving it a bit longer when I do the roots and see if that helps.

I have dark brown hair (think plain chocolate) and use half and half brun and marron, use about half a block of each (hair between shoulders and bra strap) and leave it on for anywhere between 2 hours and overnight with a shower cap and towelling turban over it.

Marron on it's own makes mine too coppery, and brun on it's own really doesn't show, although I can never see roots growing out (apart from on the odd grey, mine go coppery) so the colour isn't that far from my own. My hair is naturally much lighter either side of my face (faded and not very nice), it really improves the colour and condition of that part.

They will try and sell you Ultrabalm to put on your hairline and ears, it is actually great for lips and dry hands but expensive for this, I use vaseline.

Wriggle - it definitely doesn't cover my grey if I leave it on for less than 7 or 8 hours, so may be worth a try leaving it on longer. I have a friend who much prefers powdered henna to the Lush blocks, but I was a bit put off by the powdered stuff as some less reputable ones have all sorts of other undisclosed stuff in them.

I've gone through all 4 Lush colours and have settled on Noir. My hair is naturally darkish brown, and I prefer the colour my greys end up with the Noir - the other shades seemed to make them a bit too orangey.

If you're looking to cover greys I would suggest using body art quality henna and indigo as they are more pigmented. There are some good henna for hair forums if you google Smile
