Would this be ok to wear to a wedding?

I am plus size and I never wear anything apart from jeans and trousers so I really have no idea.

Would this dress be ok? I'm planning to but exactly what the model is wearing and hopefully I will look half decent.

What time of year is the wedding as it seems very flimsy. Would you still be able to wear your a bra underneath. Would you ever wear it again. Is it a bit fussy. Lots of questions to ask your self. I would go to the store and try it on, along with the top you intend to wear.
Would you ever take the top off exposing your shoulders and arms, I don't really like armpits at weddings, especially reaching over tables/buffets.

applesandbears · 31/01/2013 12:59

No I would never get my arms out, the shrug is out of sock anyway so i would get a similar slightly longer one. Yes to the bra, I'm sure the shrug would cover it. The wedding is in 2 weeks. No I would never wear again as I don't wear dresses. They don't have any in my local shop.

I think the frills would make a plus size look large, but try it on and see?

notMarlene · 31/01/2013 13:07

It's very summery for a february wedding, a bit fussy and bulky too I fear. There's no reason why you can't wear trousers to a wedding you know!

TheCraicDealer · 31/01/2013 13:09

I think the frills on the bottom will add bulk to your bottom half, making you look bigger than you are.

How do you feel about your legs? Asos have a curve range which goes up to size 26 with a really good selection of dresses, particularly short ones which you could wear with opaque tights.

WowOoo · 31/01/2013 13:11

You'd be better of getting something a bit more expensive that you can wear again and again.

Like notMarlene says, trousers and a lovely top could be an option.

...or a straighter skirt that you can wear again.

janmoomoo · 31/01/2013 13:15

As above, looks too summery. Sorry.

notMarlene · 31/01/2013 13:18

This has a similar feel but is more season appropriate. It's more expensive but wouldn't need a cover up.
animal print again

There's still rather a lot in the sales but I'm loath to link not knowing your size...

BabyRoger · 31/01/2013 13:18

I think the maxi dress and cardi look is nice, I just don't like this dress.

Maybe go for the look with a different dress. Monsoon do some nice ones.

applesandbears · 31/01/2013 13:19

oh no :(

No, I must wear a dress, I know that sounds odd but I have to. I've seen those Asos ones but sadly I can't wear a short dress. Hmmm I never thought of a skirt and top. I will have a look. Thank you.

applesandbears · 31/01/2013 13:22

I really couldn't get away with either of those notMarlene but thank you for the links.

I think i'm about a 24 possible 26 Shock

So, are you after ankle length is is under the knee or mid-calf ok?

Megglevache · 31/01/2013 13:24

Apples I don't like it . Sorry. I'd not lie to you.
What is your colouring- what were you planning to wear with it.

I'm no skinny minny- wrap dresses are super flattering- you can get longer length.

Maybe go for something quite plain with a fab hat/killer heels and lovely lippy?
Then you'd get more mileage out of it afterwards?

notMarlene · 31/01/2013 13:27

If you want to go seriously tenty this is rather nice, a more fitted cut is likely to be more flattering. But not if you feel shit in closer fitting stuff.

TheCraicDealer · 31/01/2013 13:27

Mhmm, there is this long one here. Like your original one, but less flippy.

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 31/01/2013 13:28

I like it! Smile

What size are you? I think being comfortable in what you are wearing and liking it yourself is miles more important than if others would choose it themselves. Even if it makes you look larger than you are, as long as you feel nice that's all that matters.

I don't really like armpits at weddings Grin

BalloonSlayer · 31/01/2013 13:29

Well I loathe and detest animal print, yet I thought this dress is lovely.

apples I didn't read your OP properly and I came back to post that I'd recommend you wear it exactly like the model does - and then I noticed that you were intending to do just that. Grin

I'd say go for it - I think you'll look fab.

janmoomoo · 31/01/2013 13:30

The ASOS peach one is lovely. You could wear with black shoes (heels or flats) and tights, black cardigan and black clutch bag. Lovely.

notMarlene · 31/01/2013 13:32

The asos coral one is indeed nice. Needs a belt though.

MechanicalTheatre · 31/01/2013 13:32

Agree with others that the frills will add bulk.

Does it HAVE to be ankle length? I think ankle length rarely flatters anyone, unless it's a very particular style.

How about either of these, they're knee-length?

pleated

print

What I'm thinking is maybe get something like the pleated one, but ankle length? I think those sort of vertical pleats look great on any size.

fuckadoodlepoopoo · 31/01/2013 13:34

I think the coral asos one makes the model look column shaped.

specialsubject · 31/01/2013 13:35

I think it is horrible, sorry. Looks like an old rag, even on that good looking and realistic model.

in addition, plus size means skinny straps won't flatter. Think the Hawaiian large lady look....

the concept of the shrug is good, but the frills and nasty print will look awful. How about something that gives you a tidy outline?

any colour except white is fine for a wedding.

ProcessYellowC · 31/01/2013 13:37

Totally agree with Balloon Slayer.

piprabbit · 31/01/2013 13:39

This is rather lovely and a flattering shape
