Anyone do henna and indigo?

I've quit using regular hair dyes as they make my scalp itch and burn a bit but at 33 I'm not ready to embrace the greys yet.

On a recommendation from here I tried the Lush Caca Brun and I love it but it hasn't caught on the greys so well. It has conditioned them so they are less obvious so I'm pleased there.

I hear using proper henna and indigo is more likely to offer good grey coverage. Does anyone here do their own henna mix? I'm looking for brown rather than very red so I think I can mix in amla to make the colour 'cooler'.

Where's good to buy supplies and any tips?

I have. I purchase from henna boy. I do the two step process and my hair is black. So don't do two step.

Go to henna for hair for recipes. Their forum also has a lively discussion of results.

Black would definitely not suit me! I'm more mid brown and I look washed out if I go too dark. I was thinking maybe 1 part amla, 3 parts henna and 2 parts indigo. I like a reddish sheen but not too much.

I am jealous of people who can get away with black hair- your hair must look amazing!

I'm a henna and indigo user, I also buy from hennaboy. I'm a warm darkish brunette. I use 50/50 henna indigo mix, one step appliation. This works well for me. I also make up a 100g henna mix, use half and freeze half. You just then make up the indigo just before you need to use it. So for just my roots, 50 g of henna and 50 g of indigo is what I need. I do my roots every 4-6 weeks and mostly the result is good, sometimes the greys resist or turn coppery not dark. I've been doing it for about 18 months now and I would say it takes time to find out what works for you. It conditions my hair well and I won't be returning to mainstream hair dyes anytime soon.

Thanks Gigi. I'm going to use up the last of my Lush block then I'll order from Hennaboy. I can cope with coppery greys, anything but bright white and sticking up! From your description sounds like my mix idea would be about right for me then.

I bought some plastic piping bags from eBay for root applications as I found suggested online.
