The Rise Of The Synthetics

Yesterday I found myself in a "posh" department store - think not quite Selfridges but a million miles away from Debenhams.

I was looking at their sale stuff because they do awesome discounts - in the knitwear all the stuff which looked perfect, hung perfectly and felt thick was an astounding array of man-made. Anything which looked like it had been in the wardrobe for a year (i.e., tiny just perceptible starts of bobbles) was each and every time, 70%+ cashmere mix.

Is this really what we've come to? :(

I know, it's a nightmare. You pay a fortune for polyester these days! I was looking at (well out of my price range) designer jeans that were £220, they were made from a polycotton mix!!! I bought a pair of polycotton mix jeans from Primark for £7!

Another wish list item of mine was an Aquascutum raincoat. However just found out that they are made with a polycotton mix too- at £625 that's insane IMO!!!!

The only places that I find stick mostly to natural fibres are Toast, People Tree and some John Lewis own brand (although can only buy in sale). Most of the other places now seem to be synthetic mix.

A real shame.

Nothing wrong with poly cotton, it doesn't need ironing.

Everything wrong with 100% polyester and stupid crumpling viscose.

I hate wool because I'm allergic to it so knit ware should come in good quality acrylic and nice heavy 100% cotton.

There is no place outside Primark for the paper thin pilling low quality plastic tat that a lot of shops call clothes.
