Wine did you know that mw started ay monsoon?so chances are people mau well be walking round in mw without realising it.

I have to disagree that such a collaboration devalues a brand if anything it makes it more aspirational inany respects.

Somepne buying a designer collab pieve mighy well purchase the real thing in future etc.

Lots of designers like stella mcartney and chloe have done high street or more accesible ranges . It didnt exactly hurt them

It's not the exclusivity I have a problem with, it's the fact I feel it cheapens a brand to put their name of a mass produced range of tat. Especially in a store like Debenhams. It's all a bit crass.

Stella's collaboration was deliberately highlighted as a one-off venture and Chloe's popularity was long standing. MW was very much on the rise and had earned an incredible reputation. The same with Alex Munroe. And excuse me, Evans? Really? Where's the connection?

If you find it aspirational then all well and good. Just leaves me feeling decidedly flat.

It would make me less likely to buy his 'real' stuff as I would think what is the point if I can get a cheap version in Evans. Also it means that it becomes so ubiquitous that you get fed up of seeing every other person wearing it.

polyhymnia · 30/01/2013 10:58

I think that unfortunately the birds, bees, etc, theme has already been pretty well done to death on the high street anyway. So owners of 'real' AM jewellery can appreciate and enjoy what I presume is the much better quality and design, but it's not exactly as original as it once was, if that matters.

I personally wouldn't describe AM as 'aspirational' - I'd only use that, I think, for something that was very expensive as well as stylish, and not seen all over the place. But perhaps that's an odd description.

As I said, I wouldn't buy from anywhere as downmarket/tacky as Evans anyway, whoever might have designed a 'range' for them.

Joekate · 15/02/2013 14:46

Well, I for one love AM's work and would love to own some. And it looks like now I can so I see absolutely nothing wrong with a wee collaboration.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 15/02/2013 14:52

Clearly there are lots of people who wanted it as apparently it has totally sold out!

piprabbit · 15/02/2013 15:01

It was pretty - but all gone now

GingerLemonTea · 15/02/2013 22:06

Hi All,
Very interested in all your comments. Hope I can explain... I was very nervous about the project but my mission is to open up good design to all. Anti-snobbery in fashion. I have always tried to keep our prices as good as possible but realise it's still out of lots of people's reach. Thought it a good experiment. The designs are quite different, using mass production techniques as best I can (we hand make all our stuff in UK). Interested in Evans because wanted to break down preconceptions between body shape and individual tastes. I've been offered megabucks to design for high street but always turned them down. (Evans money hardly covered costs). Big apologies to anyone who feels let down by the collaboration. I enjoyed the project and am very pleased with the results. No plans for further collaborations but have loved doing Goring, coco de mer, V&A, Evans... having lots of fun. New collections just launched at LFW... hope that explains things. Alex Monroe

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am sorry it has sold out as there are a couple of things I love! All the best.

piprabbit · 19/02/2013 11:30

Thanks for coming on and posting. I love the idea of designers working with high street companies and it's nice that Evans has got a look in.
I doubt you would have had quite such negative comments if you had chosen to work with Top Shop.

polyhymnia · 19/02/2013 12:16

As it happened, I didn't like them but only because they were in 'gold' which I don't wear (even in the real version).

I don't object to designers working with high street companies.

As for Evans I don't like them and wouldn't buy from them not because they are aimed at large women - I am large - but because I think their stuff is cheap and nasty. It annoys me that this sort of tacky quality clothing is all most of the plus size 'specialist' labels offer.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/02/2013 13:53

I wondered if you'd see this Alex. The things is there was quite a bit in-store which makes me think the average Evans customer didn't buy it but was more people who specifically wanted one of your pieces hence it sold so quickly onlinel

And now I'm getting loads of emails from Evans Wink
