My guess is some kind of stencil ti get such straight lines.

You need to do the eyes before applying any other makeup, apply shadow using a damp make up brush to get the colour intensity and apply each shade beyond where you want it before tidying up with a cotton bud to create the clean lines.

Lot's of giant links for you!

I'd use this brush, turned sideways so you're using the narrow side of the brush, to apply the yellow first and then blend the orange from the outside www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/383/Products/Brushes/Eye/239-Eye-Shader-Brush/index.tmpl

To get the sharp black lines, I would start off with this brush www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/289/Products/Brushes/Eye/266-Small-Angle-Brush/index.tmpl to get the bottom of the line, or one of these, sideways www.amazon.co.uk/Royal-Langnickel-Taklon-Shadow-Application/dp/B002USC9F4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1359224971&sr=8-8 and then soften and blend the under eye line (for which I'd use a dampened black eyeshadow, but blend out with dry shadow and dry brush) with one of these www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/386/Products/Brushes/Eye/219-Pencil-Brush/index.tmpl or these www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/814/Products/Brushes/Eye/212-Flat-Definer-Brush/index.tmpl

Something like this can help with blending the colour upwards in the socket, and for adding the gold on top www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/19395/Products/Brushes/Eye/286-Duo-Fibre-Tapered-Blending-Brush/index.tmpl - or you might find using the first brush I linked works well for you (obviously a clean version!)

It looks like they've used a really sheer wash of iridescent white as a highlighter. To get it that transparent you need to use a brush with a soft, floppier head. I like this one www.maccosmetics.co.uk/product/145/290/Products/Brushes/Eye/275-Medium-Angled-Shading-Brush/index.tmpl

Thanks :o

Now I just need to buy the eyeshadows and the brushes!

I'd use a black pencil for the crease and blend with a sponge. Then go over with black eyeshadow to intensify.

Are the BHcosmetics palettes any good?

If you want a cheaper source of brushes www.crownbrush.co.uk/ actually make a number of brushes for MAC and are much cheaper. They also sell palettes some of the BH cosmetics palettes. I bought one of the 88 colour palettes from another company a few years ago. The quality isn't amazing (especially the packaging), but most of the colours are highly pigmented and blendable and it's a great way of getting your hands on such a wide range of colours at a very reasonable price. Also perhaps worth pointing out that each of the colours are quite small, around the size of a 5 pence piece.

Havingkittens · 26/01/2013 21:06

If you live in London I can recommend Inglot eyeshadows. They have a shop in Westfield at Shepherd's Bush and their eyeshadows are really cheap.

Illamasqua also have a sale on their website until Tuesday and have some good palettes with bright colours for £10.

I've not tried BH Cosmetics but I suspect they're not great. Sleek are very popular with Make up Artists and lots of great colours in the palettes. Not to mention they are from Superdrug so really easy to find!

I would invest in a really good quality black though as it's a bugger to blend without going patchy if it's cheap.

auldspinster · 26/01/2013 21:30

You'd get all these colours from a Sleek Sunset Palette.

AuntieMaggie · 26/01/2013 22:13

Thanks for all your help :)

I was in superdrug today but didn't pay much attention to the sleek stuff - was too busy looking at the MUA stuff.

Illamasqua is lush. Off to check out the website.
