Hair dye - Deep rich chestnut brown?

Can anyone recommend a home hair dye, I'm after a rich, deep chesnutty brown colour (med/dark) preferably one that won't send my hair black! ( Or too red) Goes without saying it also has to leave my hair glossy with even coverage too or is that asking too much!!!

Mine is exactly as you describe. It's from Poundland. Grin

GoodDay What colour is your hair now? I know from experience that if your hair is dark already putting on a chestnutty brown dye will just make it look even darker. I used the Scott Cornwall Colour Stripper (£12.99) in Boots as mine had gone too dark and didn't suit my complexion. It took it to a light orangey colour which was great for re-dyeing to a chestnut colour. I chose Recital Preference no. 5.3 Chestnut Brown which looked lovely. It had an oil which you drop into the dye which makes your hair really glossy too.

My hair is mid brown (with very white bits Confused) used l'oreal preference on it last night called Palma, shade 5. It looks quite light brown on the box but I always find they come out much darker than the box picture!

It is now dark brown with chestnutty bits in the light, although pretty much any colour I do my hair, the reddy bits show through. Very, very glossy and shiny too! There was a little vial in the pack with gloss stuff you add into the bottle when you mix it. Looks goodSmile

Ps, left it on roots for 30mins to cover the white and through rest of hair for 10mins

Thanks for the replies!

Apple- my hair is like a light-med brown, with plenty of warmth in it, its lighter from the roots to about 3" down, then goes darker down the lengths towards the ends. Although i only dyed it just over a week ago with a permanent colour, its already gone 'wishy-washy' and i left the colour at the root area for 20 mins first before running it through the ends for the last 10 mins, but still my root area is lighter than ends!(it was medium golden brown nice n easy).

I don't really want to keep dying my hair, but at the moment it seems even permanent ones aren't staying, only at the ends of my hair! In natural light, like i say its patchy looking. I'd go to the hairdressers but don't fancy taking out a bank loan!

Jamba- Ooh, bargain :) & I like the sound the loreal ones though, leaving the hair shiny :)

My hair was in poor condition before, because I've been playing with highlights/vivid colours while on Mat Leave.

It's lovely and shiny. I wouldn't spend anymore than £1 on hair dye now. Grin
