How can I do long hair without looking mumsy?

Grew hair for wedding. Wedding was last month. My hair looked lovely but it was 'up' in a messy bun. Am 25 weeks pg and was waiting to see consultant - in the waiting room was row upon row of pg women with long lanky hair. And I was one of them ; I love being able to put up my hair but everytime I've had it cut the hairdresser puts a very short layer at the back (which I spent years growing out for the wedding), I now have all one length hair with a blunt fringe, but my hair has a wave if left to dry on its own. I'm hoping to have it highlighted again when the baby is born. Can I have it layered and styled without it looking too 'RAchel'?
Suggestions anyone?

Why don't you have it highlighted now? There's no problem with you being pregnant and having your hair dyed. It might add the look of 'texture'
If your hair is naturally lanky (no offence- your words!) then growing it too long might not be the best idea. What about this sort of length and style alexa chung or shorter, I,e, encouraging the natural wave. If you're going to have a fringe, keep it properly chunky. What is your face shape by the way?

Just dry it! My hair is long(ish) and has a slight wave to it - not enough to leave and it look nice, I have to either style it as beachy waves or style it straight otherwise I look like a hippie from a commune :)

As long as your hair is clean and you've made some sort of effort with colour and style you won't look mumsy - I literally blast my hair dry with my head upside down to give it some body, run the straighteners over it and that looks fine until I next wash it. Dry shampoo is your friend on days where it's just starting to need a wash and you've not had time.

Agree that you should get it highlighted now if you are missing having some colour - there's no reason not to just because you're pregnant!

What colour is it?

Add some long some layers and easiest way for curl/movement is sock bun curls - google or youtube it, tis dead easy

ellangirl got an oval face with a square-ish jaw. Maybe I just need colour to texturise it, and a good trim I had an all over mid brown perm colour last August but stopped when I found out I was pg and in a crazy moment in October I used a L'Oreal ombre dip dye kit which completed dried out the ends (but left my undyed roots alone. Looked awful - I'm mid brown and use Aveda deposit to colour what greys I do have.
jackstini used to use tights in my hair when I was younger - must check out those!!
Rockchick I just need to make the effort don't I!???? You make it sound easy!

Some nice coppery highlights then maybe with a few longer layers

Went for it today used the Grazia 25per cent off offer at Toni and Guy. The art director cut my hair- she recommended a long version of Gwyneth Paltrow's bob- but we agreed I do that at my next appointment which will be a week before baby. Am also going to go for highlights then. She gave me a trim and made me fringe look cool - with some layers round my face.
rockchick I've got Klorane dry shampoo, never used. Am going to now! Thanks - am going to make an effort with it now; in preparation for not l

Just a thought: what will you do if labour starts half way through highlights???? What the heck though? All those silver foil bits will look great in the new baby photos....

Its funny I always look more mumsy with short hair, but I agree it can on some people especially with Narrow features.

I think long, bouncy layers can keep long hair looking young.
