Need help for weak thin hair! Anyone tried Nioxin? Or anything else that works?

Hope someone on here can help me. I've always had fairly fine hair anyway, but it seems to be thinning more and is getting more brittle. I really wanted a perm as my hair looks great when I curl it but the hairdresser did a test on some and said my hair breaks too easily. She then tried to convince me to buy a starter pack of Nioxin treatments for £29 Shock I said I'd think about it. I really want to strengthen my hair but can't afford to be conned into buying products at that price. So I wondered what has really worked for you ladies? I have looked and can buy the Nioxin starter pack for £18 on Amazon, so will do that if it's going to work. Anyone tried it? Or have other recommendations?

Try the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer? It has protein in it which can help strengthen your strands. It is a deep conditioner that you put on before shampooing.

I have tried Nioxin but wasn't too fussed..

Biotin tablets are supposed to be good for weak hair, omega3, also eat protein and do massage your scalp with Olive oil and leave on for 30 min before washing.

I might try the olive oil thing - will that strengthen it though or does it just make it look in better condition?? My hair isn't particularly dry, just thin and brittle. I use a conditioning mask on it (eg the Lee Stafford one in the pink tub) every week or 2.
Medal - I've heard of Philip Kingsley Elasticizer before but just looked at the price of it and nearly keeled over! Makes the stuff the hairdresser tried to flog me look like a bargain! As you may have guessed I'm not used to spending lots on hair products. Grin

Biotin 10,000 mcg from Amazon. I started using them years ago, and by now, I have converted the whole family. My mum, who always had very fine hair, now gets complemented all the time on her beautiful locks (and she's almost 70!)
