I need an extra, cheapy black dress to wear under a burgundy blazer for work and I wonder if I could get this, but wear if back to front so that the drapey bit is at the front?

The dress will come up longer than on the model for me (short).

I think it may look a little odd.

Topshop have a plain black midi bodycon dress that could work.

thanks MrsCB. Will have a go at that one and avoid experimentation this time

Friend has it and it looks fab

I ordered and returned the maxi version of that dress OP and it's not so much a drape as a weird twisted flappy bit of fabric. Worn at the front I don't think it would flatter anyone really, as it's not flattering worn the right way round.

I have worn a dress back to front (obscenely plunging) but with a dress at that length I would be concerned that wearing it the wrong way round would make it obscenely short over your bum, or at least make it look as if it was slopping up at the back, as most dresses are cut longer to the back to accommodate a bum.

notMarlene · 19/01/2013 18:39

Yes, it would look most odd!

The length of the TS dress is great. Black - too much neck detail on this one?. This purpley navy would be fab with burgundy Love the cut.

notMarlene · 19/01/2013 18:44

this in blacvk or navy is fab but maybe not with a blazer Confused

mirpuppet · 19/01/2013 18:58

No. Most dresses are cut with more material in the back to accomodate our big bums

mrspink27 · 19/01/2013 19:03

this one?

scripsi · 19/01/2013 19:24

right, have backed away from the asos dress in the OP: didn't think about the more fabric at the back than front issue. HyaPaiva I think the asos dress would have to be worn (right way round) with a jacket at all times. I like those asos ones notMarlene, mrspink27 lovely shape, they're in my basket now. The Mango one would be great on its own.
The jacket is a peplum so would ideally like a plain dress to make it quite a sharp look, so will be doing a trying on session as soon as these arrive.

Oooh - dont forget to feed back!!

scripsi · 20/01/2013 12:06

will do! It has been a revelation that peplum jackets actually suit me (and I finally get to have a waist) so finding plain dresses that don't compete with the peplumage is a new mission. Of course it/I could go pearshaped so refuse to spend too much on this new phase.

You could, of course, but why not look for a dress that you would enjoy wearing the right way around? Or buy this one and enjoy wearing it on days when you don't need to wear a jacket?
