I dye my hair about every 3 weeks due to some grey in my roots. I use a garnier one which works fine and just do the roots usually. This is because i have noticed that my hair is getting thinner and also shorter! and Im wondering if the dye is damaging it so I've been trying to limit it.

My hair is also a bit resistant to dye and for a while every one i tried just tinted the grey rather than covering it! Sometimes a bit pink!

My question is that i would like to try something less harsh but which will still cover the grey and not wash out after a week. Also all the weird stuff (chemicals in the dyes and that thing that can cause allergic reactions) worry me a bit.

I did hear about some dye called "natural something", can't remember the name and was wondering if i should research that or try henna. I don't know much about henna and if you can get it in different colours, how you do it etc. Also i think i read that if you use henna you can't later use normal dye on top or get highlights. Is that true?

I have also used Nice and Easy for years - at least 20. No problems at all.

Hair does get thinner as you get older, so are you sure it's not just age Hmm.

I hope its not age! Its seems a bit sudden as is more breaking off at the bottom rather than thinning. So its just getting shorter and shorter!

And there wasn't really any need for the Hmm face was there?!

i use Garnier Belle Colour, it's been great. i have dark hair but lots of greys, and have found the dark blonde one is very good and tho permanent it blends well.

perhaps go and talk to a hairdresser - they might be able to advise better?

FWIW yes I have read on the hair dye leaflets in the box that you can't use it after using henna. I've just switched to the John Frieda foam colour (for the excellent reason of it being on offer) and it seems to have left my hair in really good nick. A lot of them say about not having ammonia in, but still have peroxide in so I wonder about the value of it not having ammonia in tbh!

I know it tends to be a lot more expensive to go into a salon to have it done (which is why I get it out of a box!) but back in the day when I could afford it: having it done with those foils means it's not sitting soaking on your scalp the way it is with home dye kits.

Lifeofpo. I do do just the roots these days. The colour is the same as my natural colour so it blends fine. I wasn't doing that back in the summer though so perhaps that's when the damage happened?

Worried Im going to end up with properly short hair!

It. Would. Not. Look. Good.

Sticky. Yeah Im a bit confused by the whole ammonia and peroxide thing. I don't know what i should be avoiding.
