Wedding Outfit Etiquette

Do mother(s) of the bride / groom have to co-ordinate / discuss outfits and colours?

Who gets the first say?

DS is getting married and there will be mother of the bride + step mother of the bride + mother of the groom + step mother of the groom.

M of the B I know, SM of the bride I've never met and SM of the groom I have nothing to do with.

No. But it may be as well to talk to your DIL to be about what you plan to wear, just to make sure you aren't wearing the same thing, and if your dil has any preferences on colour

No etiquette, but IMO the mother of the bride is the only guest who can get away with any remotely-bridal colours, meaning ivory/cream.

Congratulations!

I was told (MIL) that the mother of the bride gets to chose her colour/outfit first. I'd never heard of this before and it doesn't seem to be widely known as my sister's MIL chose her outfit before my mum.

That should say (by MIL)

Let the bride know what you are wearing and then take it from there. You dont want to be wearing the same outfits :).

Thanks, its just I've seen an outfit that would be perfect. Will mention it to DIL this weekend.

Question number 2 - if you wear a hat, do you just wear it for the ceremony then photos then take it off for the meal? If so what do you do about 'hat hair'? ie flat hair.

Women can wear their hats all day if they want, outside and indoors. Men only outside ie at church.

Hat hair is a reason you might not wear a hat. Once you've had pics and are indoors, I'd take hat off and sort hair out. One reason why fascinators have been popular, I guess. Why do I know this stuff....

inky good job you do!

I was looking at the price of hats (!!!) and saw a really nice but rather large one.
