Hair removal problem

Hi
After my son was born I started getting abcesses under my arm every time I shaved there. One got so big and bad I had to have an op to drain it away which left a scar.
Then I got one down below and on my leg again after shaving. I had antibiotics for them.
I got so fed up with it I stopped all shaving and get waxed instead which is fine and I love the smooth result.
I don't love the cost! It costs me around £35 a time to have lower legs, underarm and down below done. I just cannot afford this and so risk turning into a yeti!

My friend suggested an epilator but I've heard they're terrible for ingrowing hairs so daren't risk it.

Does self waxing work, is it easy, effective? I have to find another less expensive way before the summer!

I think you just have to try and see what works - I bought an epilator last summer, and it is FANTASTIC on my legs. It hurts like hell under my arms and bikini line, so I am using the home waxing kits on those bits.

Much cheaper, but also more convenient, as I don't have to mess about with appointments.

You could try IPL.
I found a Groupon voucher for £99 and got bikini and underarms done for 6 sessions and there is hardly any hair there now.

Have done self waxing but the strips are silly size - I need 2 packs to do a decent job on legs so may as well pay the salon

I use the microwave wax - Veet I think, often on offer in supermarket. really easy, you can buy Boots own brand removal strips as you usually need a few more than they give you. Usually get a couple of waxathons from each pot !

Best way to avoid ingrowing hairs is to brush away dry dead skin and moisturise moisturise. There is an ingrown hair solution you can buy as well. I have tried an epilator but tend to only use for in between wax emergencies, as it does give me in growns for sure.

Threading for face, creams for rest...my daughter who also suffers as we do solved her problem by using hair conditioner to shave.Sadly that didnt work for me.( cheap creams in the £ shop)

Second the epilator for legs - if you get the Braun wet & dry one toucan use it with shower gel or shave foam which I find makes it nip less and it lets you go quite a while before you get re growth.

I have tried waxing on and off, and have tried so many rubbish products from boots etc.

All have been a hassle, rushing to the microwax, too much time etc.

So, I recently went and bought

www.gigiwax.co.uk/

If you are into waxing, it will be worth it (after the initial extra cost)

You can just leave it, and it stays warm for however long you want to use it - that alone is worth it!

Have used it once, quite good results!

Although the wax I have used/bought is not washable, maybe there are washable waxes, I haven't researched others yet... just got the all purpose honee wax.

I used Body Shop sugaring. Its water soluble and comes with fabric washable strips. Worked well with minimal ingrowings. Not sure if it's still available.
Then shaved for years.
Then tried epilator- an instrument of torture IMHO
Then had a Boots Smooth Skin which was fantastic esp on bikini line. It developed a faulty bulb and when I returned it, discovered it was no longer in production- staff didn't know why, or if they had had issues with it.
