Hairdresser in Bromley?

Is anybody able to recommend a good hairdresser in Bromley?
I've recently moved there and am looking for somewhere that is good at cutting and highlights.

Well, I used to to to a salon in Covent Garden called Ash which has a branch in Bromley. I say "used to" because they called on Sat to say that they are closing in Covent Garden because of huge overhead increases. Bromley is miles from me so I am in need of a new salon quickly as I had an appointment next week but you could try their branch in Bromley. I used a stylist called Katy who was originally in Bromley, moved to Covent Garden and is apparently now going back to Bromley. She cuts, I never had my hair coloured there so not sure about that.

I grew up in Bromley. If I still lived there I'd go up to town (very good train service, I recall) to have my hair done, as I do now from a SW London suburb.
I go to Charles Worthington in Covent Garden.

I currently go to CW but I want somewhere closer and more convenient.

Sorry not to be able to help - I'm not up to date with Bromley scene any more (just know ther's nowhere decent in my own particular suburb!). Central Londno has been fine for me because i've always worked there and now study there, but I can see that if you don't have cause to go there regularly it's not so convenient.

I recommend Baccarat in Beckenham.

I've tried the Toni & Guy and Rush in Bromley and was not impressed.

If you fancy a drive or train to Blackheath then Fresh is the best salon I have ever been to.

snoopdogg · 14/01/2013 10:51

My sister lives in West Wickham and has someone come round to cut and colour. Always looks good. Do you want me to get the number?

Autumn12 · 14/01/2013 14:43

Thanks everyone.
I work in Central London but don't have time durng the week to get my hair done and I don't fancy trekking back in at the weekends.
I definitely want to go to a salon as I like to lose myself in a magazine and now have to chat too much, which I imagine I'd have to do if they came to my house anti-social.

I personally wonder how would easy it would be to find a hairdresser of similar quality to Worthington in the suburbs - even the affluent ones, like Bromley and the SW area I live in. May well be prejudice, I know - but I've certainly never found one near me that I'd trust to do more than a blow dry. And I have looked.

Have to admit, I used to like going off to London on a Saturday afternoon every 6-8 weeks if I couldn't fit in an appointment in the week - combining it with some shopping or window shopping while DH looked after DS. But I do realise that isn't feasible/desirable for everyone who lives in the suburbs.

Autumn12 · 14/01/2013 16:59

See I haven't found CW to be all that. The colour is good, and it's a nice experience but I always find that by the time they get to cutting they seem to be rushing and I never quite get what I want.

I'm hugely fussy about hairdressers - as you may have gathered - and have been to most of the top London ones in my time (Daniel Galvin, Richard Ward, Frieda, etc). But have to say that - although all are nice places and great for manicures too - the level of satisfaction at the end does vary a lot, depending whether you get a stylist who is just 'right' for you. I guess there 's a lot of personal chemistry and luck involved.

Went to Aveda in Covent Garden for ages until my stylist went off to the States, and then I 'bounced around' between various salons. Did try CW and felt much like you. Loved the colour (Carolyn) but the stylists were never more than OK. But, more or less on a whim, decided to give it one more go (the location is good for me) and now I've found someone I really click with and who gives me a cut I really like (Jess), so I'm planning to stay loyal to them.

I can recommend Smiths which is on Chatterton Road near Bromley Common. I have been going there for about 5 years for a cut and highlights.

I agree with a previous poster that you will probably struggle to find a salon in the suburbs which meets the same standard as Central London. However I am always pleased with the cut and colour and also the service and atmosphere at Smiths.

Thanks Rose50 that looks promising I will give them a call.

The thing about cebtral London hairdressers is that their high rents force them to charge really high prices, but I've never found that the service they provide is worth the extra cost particularly.

CW is a nice experience because it's a lovely salon and they give you champagne etc, but I've never come away feeling that my hair looks great and justifies how much I have just paid. My colleague who also goes there often has what I consider to be stripy highlights.

Finding a good hairdresser is hard!

As I said, I too felt that about CW until I found my present stylist. Certainly felt my previous stylist in Aveda was worth every penny. But have also had experiences at some 'top' salons where I've paid a fortune and not been very impressed.
So it really is a question of finding the right stylist for you, wherever you go.

lifeistooshorttodrinkcheapwine · 15/01/2013 12:10

i used to go to CW in covent garden until one day while sitting waiting for a colour to work i was watching people coming into get their hair done and they all seems to be leaving with a similar style - like clones. So i stopped going.
Sorry i dont know Bromley area. Hope you find somewhere you're happy with.

polyhymnia · 15/01/2013 12:15

My stylist at CW is the first since the one at Aveda to give me the cut I want, rather than what they think I should want/what suits them. In the past, I've certainly had 'boring' haircuts there and at other central London salons (as well as suburban ones).

Still prefer central London to suburbs but that's just me!
