botox question

bananainmyhair · 13/01/2013 20:30

I've never had botox before but am going to try it this year for the first time.

I want to get the lines on my forehead done, but also wondering, can it reduce under eye lines? I have lines under my eyes (not sure if they would be classed as crows feet or not - they are under my eyes but are starting to creep down my cheek a bit, argh!)

Anyone info appreciated!

Whereabouts are you? Am just thinking about it myself to sort my number 11's out...
Am in the West Mids so would like a recommendation if anyone has one.

Walnutcakelover · 14/01/2013 09:59

I have never had this man, but there have been good reviews on him, he is supposed to be the michaelangelo ( spelt that wrong) of botox. He also has a west midlands clinic.

Let me know if you go, am thinking of having some stuff done myself.

Please think very carefully about having botox as although it is rare you can react baddly to it. I have a friend who was very very ill after having it ; I know that hundreds of people have it and are fine but she was one of the unlucky ones who reacted. It took her six months to get her life back. I just wanted to put this out there as nobody talks about any potential side effects. My friend is now back to normal again .

Walnutcakelover · 14/01/2013 10:49

Botox is a no no for me, but am sure it's good for others. I was thinking of having lip enhancement, although that is scary and has its own side effects.

Catchingmockingbirds · 14/01/2013 10:51

Where are you?

Walnutcakelover · 14/01/2013 10:56

I have thought about going to tracey mountford for the lip enhancement, but keep putting it of, just scared Smile

cardamomginger · 14/01/2013 11:10

I see Susan Mayou at the Cadogan Clinic in London. I get my frown lines, creases between my eyebrows and 'laughter lines' (I don't think I've ever found anything that funny) done. It's fab, I love it and I don't care what anyone says about my decision to do it.

I would never go to anyone other than a consultant dermatologist who specialises in it - this is a medical product that is being injected into your muscles. A good consultant should provide a free 2-week check up after doing the injections to check the results and to do a top up if the results aren't enough for you.

Good luck!

I use www.qaesthetics.co.uk/ in Glasgow. The company is run by a GP too so everything is very safe.

IslaValargeone · 14/01/2013 13:20

Echoing homeaway with her warning.
I had an awful experience which I have posted about here.
Please also be aware that you can get a bad reaction with a good doctor.

Walnutcakelover · 14/01/2013 13:49

I agree with you isla even with a good Dr there is always a risk, different people react differently. Most of these celebs that have work done most likely used top notch dr's, but still go horribly wrong.

Catchingmockingbirds · 14/01/2013 14:15

Yes but with a doctor if you have a reaction you'll be in safer hands than if you were being injected by a nurse...

WhereMyMilk · 14/01/2013 14:16

Thanks for that Walnut,x

Walnutcakelover · 14/01/2013 14:19

You're welcome Wheremymilk*

maisiejoe123 · 14/01/2013 15:37

I have been going to Dr Mountford for yrs, very light touch and she offers 2 week tweaks.

Of course having injections in your face carry some risk and there will be people who scare us all by saying they knew a friend of a friend who nearly died but I believe the advantages outweigh the risks.

noddyholder · 14/01/2013 15:41

I have had about 5 or 6 times over 2 years I love it. I need at atm and will probably go this week. I go to Mr Yelland at the Nuffield just outside Brighton.I only have forehead as thats all I need and I don't like the look of it on crows feet (don't need yet) friend has it and she does look odd and has decided not to have it there again.

IslaValargeone · 14/01/2013 16:31

catchingmockingbirds What do you base that comment on? Do you mean an instant reaction? because most side effects do not even begin to appear for a good 12 hours at least. It can take a week if not more for botox to take effect.

From a cosmetic point of view, if you get droop or something similar, there is very little that can be done other than waiting it out. There are drops available for but any lift will be measured in mm realistically.
For serious side effects it is more likely one would head to a GP or hospital.

IslaValargeone · 14/01/2013 16:34

It is irresponsible to suggest 'everything is very safe' This is not a tub of Astral we are talking about. It is a neuro toxin, which even in the hands of an expert might not suit everyone.

IslaValargeone · 14/01/2013 16:36

I'm not passing any judgement by the way on anyone who has it done, I'm just saying proceed with caution.

prettyanddainty · 14/01/2013 17:34

Any cosmetic procedure has to be taken with caution. There is always a horror story to tell, especially on Botox, lip injections.
I was reading this one the other day, in this case i think she has just messed with nature a bit tooo much.

Catchingmockingbirds · 15/01/2013 18:50

I base that comment on the fact that I have a good relationship with the GP, and the thorough health check that he does prior to even discussing the Botox.

If I have ANY problems at all, at anytime, he can advise me what is the best course of action. Considering he administered the injection, he is best placed to understand the complications that may occur. There are 1000's of Botox procedures that can be carried out. All with various effects if things go wrong.

Personally I have never had any issues, but yes they can happen and a slight droop is not actually a bad reaction, that is just something that is unfortunate.

So what I am basing this on is the integrity, relationship and expertise of the Dr that I have been visiting. He has carried out thousands of procedures from simple to very complex and specialises in facial aesthetics, he is not cheap, but I would rather use him and have piece of mind and get exactly what I pay for. They also use Botox rather than the cheaper alternatives that are available.

As for your comment about visiting a GP, he is a GP.
