Trying to match things

I have a new dress that needs a matching or toning shrug or jacket.
I go to a paint supplier that mixes paint colours, like Homebase's Dulux, and pinch some of those strips of paint colour options. Then find the ones that match the dress and take those round in my handbag in the hope of finding a match.
Otherwise it's very hard to guess if something is the right shade or not.

Um... why not just wear the new item to go shopping? Or buy the co-ordinating item at the same time? Confused

Don't get too hung up on matching the exact shade, having everything the same colour can look a bit aging. A contrast or toning colour might look better. What colour is the dress?

I don't want to wear black with it as it is too draining so need grey prob but it is a very mauvey grey so tricky to match, also like the dress and don't want to detract from it too much.

Also it is for a wedding so want to keep it new looking so prefer not to wear it on shopping trips Confused

Link just brings me to the home page, what the dress called?

ujjayi · 13/01/2013 16:50

I would go for magenta rather than trying to match the grey. Or how about a faux fur capelet or jacket which would give it a gorgeous luxe edge.

CaptainNancy · 13/01/2013 23:09

Chartreuse- it's Kiyo.
What shoes will you wear? Bag? When is the wedding? (i.e. season)

mirpuppet · 13/01/2013 23:15

You don't have to wear the dress. You can take it with you carefully wrapped. It will be fine. And then in changing room try it on with a capelet -- which sounds like a great idea.

I see it now, lovely colours! Lots of shades would be lovely with it, but I agree with ujjayi, fur would be very luxe. Unless it's high summer, so we need more details Smile

Yes, fur would be great.
Wedding is next Dec, yes I know I am a bit premature but will be abroad before then so not in a good position to buy a winter dress.
Magenta sounds interesting. Would be more flattering for me than more grey.

Thanks for suggestions.

I saw some fur jackets today in Coast reduced in the sale that might suit you. I am impressed at how organised you are!
