I don't know where to shop anymore

I went for a look round the shops today to see what was coming in for Spring. I went to all the usual high street shops - Next, Dorothy Perkins, H&M, River Island - and as I wandered round it suddenly dawned on me that I'm too old to shop in any of these places anymore.
At 43 I'd like to make a nod to current trends but I'm too old for all the high fashion stuff. But I don't know where else to look - I'm not ready for M&S or CC yet - so where do I go?

COS, Zara, The Outnet.

I like Oasis and Warehouse.

I shop in all the shops you have mentioned and I am nearly 40. I also shop at Gap, Uniqlo, Zara, John Lewis.

dexter73 I wondered about John Lewis. I was thinking about going and using their personal shopping service - thought it would be a good way to find out about different brands and also try some styles I might not think of myself.

Unfortunately there isn't a Uniqlo or Cos where I live. Quite like internet shopping but only when I can be sure of the sizing.

I do not think you are too old to shop there I am 42 and go there too but also Zara, Whistles , Top Shop - I think it is a case now of being more mindful of what I can wear to make me look good. Tbh I think I dress better now than in my twenties or thirties

Well I am 56 and would buy some things at all those shops. I like Whistles and jigsaw for more expensive purchases, though I do have one rather nice Country Casuals dress ( I cut the label out as I couldn't bear to look at it)

I am 42 and shop on the high street at: Topshop, H&M, Zara, the occasional piece from All Saints and Anthropologie. I use The Outnet, eBay & TK Maxx to find high end bargains from Matthew Williamson, Vivienne Westwood, Malene Birger, Alexander Wang. I also trawl the vintage stores and charity shops.

IME the high street can be a dull place in terms of those ranges aimed at women 40+. I have a very eclectic wardrobe which has arisen from really understanding who I am and what I want my clothes to say about me. Do you know what you want to wear but just can't find it? If so, perhaps we can help? Smile

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 11/01/2013 18:29

ujjayi I think that's part of the problem - I don't know what I want to wear.

I am 5'7" and a size 16. I have quite big boobs but do have a waist. Friends and family say I always look smart - but smart isn't always the look I want. Sometimes it would be nice to look trendy or sexy or something!

I know I can't wear high necked tops or chunky knits as they make me look very matronly. I would like to wear more skirts but struggle to get knee high boots to fit over my calves.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

I think when you get older you have to go for better quality items, I used to live and die in RI but can't wear it anymore, makes me sad.

I wear Zara although everyone wears it. I also get more designery stuff from outnet or Bicester or sales. Last few things have been JCrew, haute hippie, red Valentino.
