If I remember I take my make up off before bed, I don't wear much and its not everyday, but other than that I give my face a wash in the shower. I have the odd facial, but the last one was a year ago.

My skin is pretty good, no wrinkles (yet), I get the odd spot but nothing major.

I don't know where to start. Do I need anti ageing? Is it still cleanse tone moisturise that just 17 told me years ago? I don't want to spend ££££ either.

Can you help? Just a pointer in the right direction will do.

watching, as i have never had one either.

valiumredhead · 11/01/2013 10:19

Look on The Body Shop website and order some day and night cream from the aloe range - that will start you off :)

UterusUterusGhaLaLaLaLaLi · 11/01/2013 10:34

The thing these days is-get this-a flannel to wash your face with!
Shock
It's now known as a hot cloth though.

I'm 32 and had more of a regime when I was 11 tbh.

All you need is to wash and slap stuff on ifaik. And don't smoke.

BovrilonToast · 11/01/2013 10:40

Here's mine for you...

AM - cleanse with SLS free cleanser and clarisonic (sonic cleanser brush)
hydrating eye cream, La Roche Posay Effaclar duo on rest of face (for acne), Clarins Hydraquench serum, followed by Clarins Hydraquench moisturising gel creme.

PM - Hot cloth cleanse with Liz Earle's cleanse and polish. Eye cream and Clarins Lotus oil

Every couple of days - use MD Formulations facial cleanser with glycolic stuff.

Every week or so - deep cleansing face mask.

In a year this routine has turned my skin from shitty, blocked pores with at least three pots on the go at once to pretty bloody amazing.

Prior to this I washed my face in the shower with a cheap face scrub and that was it.

I have oily dehydrated skin, it used to look shit, now it looks soooo much better!

Have a look at Sali Hughes' Get the Look facebook group, the lovely ladies on there will help you diagnose your skin type (sounds normal to me) and help you find products for you to get going with. Superdrug have some really well rated products that are really really reasonable.

foofooyeah · 11/01/2013 10:44

Bovrilon, that sounds interesting, shall take a look. I used to spend £££ on creams etc in my thirties, have been very poor and lazy in the 40s and its time to pick it up again.

BovrilonToast · 11/01/2013 10:45

Uterus, that made me laugh, I used a flannel for my hot cloth cleansing...

So a la mode!

GlaikitFizzog · 11/01/2013 10:49

Well I don't smoke, so that's a tick in the right box! And a flannel! Tick!

Shock at the price of a clarisonic!

I'll have a look at the fb group. Are we talking day nigh and eye cream as a start? Do I need an anti ageing one? Or would the Simple range be ok? I use their wipes and eye remover just now.

OP posts:
BovrilonToast · 11/01/2013 10:59

I know, I was a bit Shock - but it's made such a difference!

Simple do a good cleanser you can use with your flannel - ahem hot cloth...

I don't use a night cream, I use an oil, as my skin is combination, and the Clarins one helps with oil control and acne scarring.

I would suggest you get a hot cloth cleanser (this will take your make up of finc eye make up), day moisturiser with SPF, and a night cream with anti ageing if you think you need it!

DSM · 11/01/2013 11:01

Oh god bovril that's a massive hassle - how can you be bothered?

I'm the same OP - have never cleansed, toned or moisturised in my life, sleep with my make up on every night (and have done for ~16 years) and in the morning, I just baby-wipe last nights off and start again. Have never had a facial or anything like it.

My skin was amazing up until about 6 months ago.. So good that people used to comment on it often. Now it's awful.. Lots of spots, to the point of googling acne, but then I've had all manner of health issues in the last 6 months so I blame that.

Wouldn't mind sorting it though

DSM · 11/01/2013 11:02

Clarisonic thing is £180?! That can stay on the shelf.

shoeprincess2 · 11/01/2013 11:08

Brovril is right- the Sali Hughes group is fab. I now have a proper regime and my skin is looking pretty good (I've had issues all my life with oiliness, spots, dehydration- you name it).

AM- Soap and Glory's Peaches & Clean face wash, followed by Superdrug's Simply Pure hydrating serum and Clarins Hydra Cream Gel and an eye cream
PM- Hot flannel Cloth Cleanse- either Elemis Pro Radiance cleanser or Superdrug's Vitamin E hot cloth cleanser, followed by Superdrug's hydrating serum and then REN's Omega 3 oil or Superdrug's Vitamin E skin oil

Twice a week- REN's glycolactic face mask or Gatineau's anti wrinkle mask

Superdrug's stuff is great and for the price, an absolute bargain. My skin has been super dehydrated recently- cold weather, central heating etc., but the serum has put it back on track!

BovrilonToast · 11/01/2013 11:09

It takes five minutes in the morning and evening, honestly! I do the weekly stuff when I'm cleaning the bathroom, slap a face pack on and get on with it...

And my skin isn't shit anymore...

I got my Clarisonic on buyapower for £90 - so not quite as painful.

I was so miserable about my skin, last year I decided to sort it out... 36 with acne was pissing me off!

GlaikitFizzog · 11/01/2013 12:35

I have a voucher I got for Christmas to get my annual facial Wink. I normally just get a bog standard Faisal, but the salon does microdermabrasion. Any good? The blurb make ot sounds like they Hoover your face! Is that right?

OP posts:
BovrilonToast · 11/01/2013 12:39

Ha, yes - they do hoover your face. it is not a relaxing facial!

Is it a Caci one? I have one every few months, they do make your skin glow!

GlaikitFizzog · 11/01/2013 12:59

I can upgrade to include caci but that would take me over my voucher . That looks like they attack you with electrodes! Beauty is violent isn't it! :o

GinOnTwoWheels · 11/01/2013 13:17

OP, I am 39 and have never had much of a skin care regime. I almost never wear make up, so none to take off Grin.

I wash my face in the morning, but not in the evening, with whatever foaming face wash is on offer in the supermarket, Boots etc and most importantly, wear face cream with UV protection in, every single day, again, whatever is on offer in the supermarket, but I also quite like the Boots Botanics daily renewal cream. The sun is very aging, and the exposure is there even on cloudy days and in winter. I've never spent more than about £5/6 on a pot of face cream.

I might do a mud face pack about once every 2/3 months when I can be arsed.

Thats the entirety of it and my skin is amazing for my age. Honestly, I don't look a day over 30 and still get asked for ID when buying alcohol.

What is it that you feel you ought to be doing and what do you hope to achieve?

Why spend time and money on something because magazines tell you it is necessary?

GlaikitFizzog · 11/01/2013 13:26

Well, I'm noticing my youthful dewy complexion I always was complemented on is beginning to look dull and drab. I had ds in 2011 and since then the dreaded dark circles have appeared. They aren't horrendous, but I look tiered even when I'm ot.

I'm from good stock. My mum looks a good 10 years younger than she is because of her good skin, but she does look after hers.

I don't read magazines and honestly I'm to lazy to give a stuff about what they say I need to do. I have just noticed that my skin isn't as good as it used to be, so should probably make a bit more of an effort. For me, not for anyone else.

My hair is shiny and swishy, I want a face to match!

OP posts:
BovrilonToast · 11/01/2013 14:11

Glaikit, I've only had the Caci one, and I would recommend it.

Gin, you're lucky. My skin has always been bad, congested, spotty and dull. I'm 36 and I regularly get ID'd for alcohol. When I went to the post office this week to get my passport done the lady couldn't believe I was 36 and asked to see my driving licence... Looking young isn't just about having good skin!

It's not just about what the press says we should look like/buy. I feel more confident if my face isn't erupting like Vesuvius Grin

FiercePanda · 11/01/2013 14:45

I'm 29 and haven't a scooby what I should be using on my skin. I get dry patches (forehead, chin and cheeks) and spots. Dark circles under my eyes but no wrinkles yet. I followed the Princessing thread from yonks ago and my skin wasn't looking too bad, but I got out of the habit (especially the eye cream) and it went shot to shit. I drink a lot of soft Scottish water a day (at least ten Ikea chunky glasses full) which definitely makes my skin look puffier/fuller/gives it a bit of oomf, but the dry patches, spots and dark circles are a bugger. Watching this thread with a notebook, a pen and my wallet on standby interest.

GlaikitFizzog · 11/01/2013 16:58

I have Scottish water on tap probably don't drink enough on the days in at home but at work all I drink is water.

So I'm going to take myself off to boots to get a hot cloth cleanser, day cream with SPF and a night cream.

Anyone got a recommendation for baggy eyes?

Kittycatcat · 06/02/2013 17:15

I love my Liz Earle cleanse and polish, skin tonic and bright eyes. They usually have offers on, but look on qvc also. It lasts aaaaaaages.
