How long does your hair / beauty routine take?

I am a girly girl at heart but have really let my grooming slide. Put on weight and lost confidence. I don't really style my hair and only do basic make up for work days.

How long does it take you to get ready on a morning and what do you do?

How much time a day / week do you spend on beauty / grooming?

I really want to start curling my hair for work but don't want to get up in the middle of the night! Plus things like painting nails, eyebrows, moisturising all add up time-wise. x

Too long!! But I'm much happier now I make the effort.
I'm going through the opposite after years of putting on weight and losing confidence with an EA H. 9m out of the marriage and down to a size 12-14 I feel much better, making an effort with hair and makeup really helps. I Shellac my nails so they don't need worrying about for 2 or so weeks at a time.
Can you do something other than curling your hair as that would be v time consuming? Maybe a consultation for a new hairstyle that would be easier to maintain.
New Year, new start, good luck.x

I would just do what makes you happy. Personally I do nothing aside from wash and wear deodorant, shave armpits and legs because that's what makes me happy.

i'm a bit like you OP. i used to take alot of time to do it all but since having ds2 (3.7) things have gone downhill (apart from my weight! that's gone up)

i'm slowly getting back to my original self. i have long hair and i dont dry it, i just use morrocan oil and let it air dry. most days i do basic make-up. i'd say if i had a straight run (no dc interrupting) from getting out of the shower to being ready to leave house, probably 10 minutes. if i was drying my hair and straightening it, probably half an hour or longer but i hate drying it, it's so thick it takes ages.

Op you could have a perm done. i dont mean one of those 80's style corkscrew perms i mean one of the lovely modern ones that they do in the good salons. i've seen them done, they look lovely.

One minute a day, shamingly: brush hair, scent, Stila illuminating moisturiser, smoky eye purple pencil, mascara, lip tint.

Get brows threaded & tash ripped (15 min), dye eyebrows & lashes at home (20 min), epilate (10 min), once a month.

Scrubby sponge in and Holiday skin after bath does skin care, overnight conditioner does hair care. (2 min)

100 quid hairdo every six months.

I have curly / wavy hair which I wash in the evening and let dry naturally overnight - result in the morning is mad ringlets / waves which can be tamed with serum or straightened (read not poker straight but de-fuzzed somewhat) with GHDs.

Skincare / Make up is No 7 Protect & Perfect, Chanel Vitalumiere foundation. Rimmel concealer, Rimmel Stay Matte powder, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess bronzer as blusher, L'Oreal liquid eyeliner and Lancome L'extensils mascara, followed by Chanel Coco Rouge in Mademoiselle - takes 6/7 mins.

It varies with me. I don't do a lot of things for myself, plus I am overweight which I am not so happy about, so beauty is my bag right now.

I guess I spend between 20-40 minutes on hair and makeup - I have naturally curly hair so wash, apply product, then diffuse for 5-10 minutes. I could dry it naturally but I prefer the volume I get with a bit of heat!

If I'm wearing make up (which I do most of the time) I do a full face - foundation, powder, blusher, contour, brows, mascara and a sheer lippy as an absolute minimum. I do really enjoy doing my make up though so often do more on my eyes or wear a bold red lipstick.

I always have my nails done. It takes me maybe 20 minutes start to finish every few days. Sometimes I do them at work!

For reference, I have a full time job and 3 children so although this seems excessive I fit it in around them. Also, my DH is out of work so he doesn't have to get dressed first thing so can do breakfast for us all while I tart myself up.

Too long!
Shower, wash hair and shave every morning. Blow dry hair, full face make up, get dressed - all in all about an hour if I take out the 5 times I have to shake preteen awake! I curl my hair with a big round brush and the hair dryer for soft waves. Lay out work clothes the night before.
I do nails in the evening every other day, about half an hour in front of the tv. Pluck eyebrows every weekend. Hair colour every month at home.
Wish I could get it to half that but my hair is a state when I wake up.

I am working on the hair / beauty side while I am losing weight - not like I can go clothes shopping!

I'd definitely recommend getting eyebrows threaded, for the time once every four weeks or so, it makes me look and feel more pulled together.

Instead of going for a big regime straight off, I'd start with smaller things, easing you in and you can see what's really important, what maybe isn't. I started with a cleanse/moisturise routine for a while then started with make up. I love painted nails but didn't work for me now with work, so that got ditched.

Most days my shower / hair / makeup routine takes me about an hour. I spend about 10 mins each evening cleansing and moisturising my face.

One evening a week (on dh's night out) I usually sit and paint my nails.

On a sat morning I usually have an extra long shower and do a full body exfoliation.

I enjoy the whole getting ready process and will often spent time at the weekends faffing and trying new things out.

Tuppence2 · 06/01/2013 20:28

Every morning before work, make up takes 20 mins: foundation, concealer, bronzer, eye liner, mascara, vaseline on lips.
Then a quick brush of my hair and a spray of volumising spray or a run of serum.
(I rarely wash my hair in the morning because it's super thick so takes ages to dry. I tend to do it before bed and then run GHDs through it to smooth it down as it's pretty much poker straight anyway)
Every other evening I have a long shower, in which I scrub and exfoliate from top to toe, shave and wash my hair.
I usually paint my nails every 3 or 4 days depending on how chipped they are, and pluck my eyebrows.
Once a week I fake tan, as I hate how pale I naturally am.

I love spending ages getting ready for a big night out, and usually enjoy it almost as much as the actual night out!

I have 14 mo twins and have to try to get ready for work while they are running round my bedroom. So as you can imagine my routine is minimal. I had a very short haircut just before I went back to work, so it needs no styling atall

Shower and wash hair every day before twins wake up, put moisturiser on and comb hair into style and leave to dry naturally while getting the babies up and giving their morning milk. Then all decamp into my room while I get dressed and do make up - bb cream, mineral blusher, mascara. Then all downstairs for breakfast and out the door by 8.

I get shellec nails done when I have time (once a month maybe, on my lunch break) and have hair trimmed and coloured every 6 weeks on saturday morning so DH can have the DCs. Have an epilator but its painful so often I just shave or leave to grow wild in winter!
