Dry cleaning knitwear??

I've seen a jumper I quite fancy, it's reduced so good value except that the cleaning instruction is 'dry clean'. It's a wool (50%), polyester (40%), nylon (10%) mix, I'd expect 'handwash only' but not dry clean. I never usually buy dry clean and won't this time unless anyone can reassure me that it will be OK in a gentle wool machine wash, please?

I have the same question as YoungJoseph, except for a cashmere dress which is dry clean only. Surely a gentle handwash wouldn't hurt??? (won't buy it if I have to dry clean, simples)

I would risk it but then you have to be prepared for it to go wrong. I guess it depends on how expensive the jumper is. Nobody can guarantee that it won't work.

Don't think I'll risk it. Have not obeyed washing instructions in the past and regretted it. Perhaps that's why it's in the sale. Thanks for your replies.

Good quality cashmere improves with gentle washing, my vintage pieces get better and better.

I wouldn't risk it. I have a few of my favourite woollens (not usually the cashmere ones, but mixtures like you are considering) dry cleaned because just can't risk them shrinking.
