Best hand cream for parched hands?

Lottapianos · 02/01/2013 16:24

I have very dry skin and with the cold weather, my 33 year old hands are looking more like 83. I'm currently using Vaseline SPF 15 handcream but it's really not moisturising enough.

Any better recommendations? Not too greasy and not too spendy ideally. Thanks

I use olive or avacado oil she says ignoring OPs "not too greasy" request in cotton gloves at night.

I always use neutrogena concentrated norwegian formula. You only need a tiny bit, it's cheap, and lasts me for ages. It is a little bit greasy, but as long as I stick to only using a tiny bit, it all rubs in easily so my hands don't feel greasy. I find more watery ones make my hands even worse in very cold weather.

Grin lilleyflowers - I use the oil cleansing method for my face so could shove some olive oil on before bed and let it soak in. DP will be Hmm and Confused if he sees me getting in bed with gloves on and I think my hands would get too hot anyway.

Will have a look at Neutrogena MrsMango, thanks

I use The Body Shop Hemp hand cream works a treat for my dry skin. Not too oily/greasy either.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2013 17:11

The Flexitol one is pretty good for a cheapish one - it smells though!

bluesky · 02/01/2013 17:12

Ditto Body Shop Hemp, the one for feet is excellent too.

doglover · 02/01/2013 17:13

I use the Flexitol Heel Cream - excellent!

hurricanewyn · 02/01/2013 17:14

E45 lotion, not cream, is really good. I use it on my very dry, peely hands.

VerityClinch · 02/01/2013 17:16

Aveeno is the only one that works for me, but it's instant relief, so good!

ByTheWay1 · 02/01/2013 17:16

Avon's own hand and nail cream with glycerine - the only one that doesn't make my youngest DD's hand red and sore

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 02/01/2013 17:17

My hands at horribly dry, I use the l'occitane Shea butter cream with gloves at night time. I feel silly in the gloves but they do help, my boyfriend says they make me look like a mime...

iseetinselandtantrums · 02/01/2013 17:19

Another Neutrogena Norwegian user here. You'll see a great improvement after just one night.

danne · 02/01/2013 17:21

I've used so many but always come back to Nivea.

PackItInNow · 02/01/2013 20:44

I used to get cracked, dry hands from washing up and cleaning. I used all sorts of hand creams and the 2 creams that keep my hands in good nick are Avon's Anew Platinum night cream (use it at night without those cotton gloves) and Kingsley House Cracked Heel Cream.

The heel cream is nothing fancy and I use it daily, but I have been told that I have the hands of a 25yo despite all the dish washing, cleaning and being 10 years older.

PackItInNow · 02/01/2013 20:45

I also meant to say that I have used the cotton gloves before and they soaked up most of the cream on my hands, so I stopped using them and just massaged the creams in well.

Fishandjam · 02/01/2013 20:52

I've been using the Doublebase gel that we were given for DS's wee bitty eczema. (It's not steroidal, just mega moisturising.) You can buy it over the counter and it's fairly cheap. It has really sorted the deep cracks on my fingertips, caused by too much washing up!

CDROM · 03/01/2013 00:45

Aveeno! Amazing!

janji · 03/01/2013 00:50

L'Occitane Shea butter is great.

JustCallMeDavesHorse · 03/01/2013 00:51

L'occitane

I really like Neutrogena hand and nail cream, although it is a bit greasy. Good for bedtime though. During the day I use Neutrogena fast absorbing hand cream. Both are inexpensive and they are unscented which was important for me as anything scented made my hands v itchy.

Lottapianos · 03/01/2013 09:28

Wow, thanks for all the advice everyone. Will have a think and do some shopping this weekend Smile

Another vote for neuttogena Norwegian formula. Tiny bit once a day works miracles.

MrsRebeccaDanvers · 03/01/2013 10:54

Lanolips hand cream is good and smells lovely though it is a bit pricey. E45 hand cream is just as good but doesn't smell as nice.

Quenelle · 03/01/2013 10:55

Nivea Soft.

Not too greasy and only a quid [parsimonious new year emoticon]

spaghettina · 03/01/2013 17:26

I was given some OPI Avoplex High Intensity cream for Christmas and it's fantastic! here

Also a fan of the Avène Cold Cream hand cream. Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream is good too. None of these come cheap though...
