Have fallen in love with this ring but it's been sold and can't find anything similar anywhere I've looked. The shoulders don't need to be diamond set, in fact I'd prefer it if they were just kind of etched iykwim? think 32 diamonds are out of my price range anyway! I have long thin fingers and am not looking for anything bling, just small, simple and pretty. Is it the kind of thing that I would need to have made? Grateful for any help

It looks quite a common style of Edwardian ring. It's v pretty, I reckon you could find a similar one fairly easily. Antique will be much cheaper than new, so it's a great style to go for

I've been looking through vintage rings for over an hour but nothing jumping out at me so far, I'll add Edwardian to the search and keep looking, thanks

Not a clue. But it's beautiful!
How much did it go for?

Bella88 · 30/12/2012 23:32

I read the title in Julian Clary's voice Xmas Blush

greyvix · 30/12/2012 23:33

What a beautiful ring. I hope you can find a similar one from an antiques market. Brighton has lots of antique jewellers, but they would probably not sell online.

cakeoholic · 30/12/2012 23:34

$1300, I can't stop looking at it Grin

What is the budget?

cakeoholic · 30/12/2012 23:36

I'm quite a way from Brighton unfortunately, grey

I'm not really sure Bessie, its a big birthday gift and will be instead of a engagement/wedding ring as I don't want to get married but like pretty rings!Grin though I'm very sensible about money and don't like spending too much on myself and have no idea how much something like it would realistically cost. icr been thinking mid hundreds, would love to spend less but would probably spend more for the right one

Don't get annoyed if I have completely misinterpreted what you want, but I thought these had a similar 'estate jewellery' feel (I know they are not as delicate):
Taylor
Grace
Audrey

I like rings in that style and have an Edwardian one that's sort of similar. The swirly etching is called filigree so try adding that to your google search too.

titan · 31/12/2012 00:47

Actually the one you wanted isn't sold out. They obviously have a few! www.topazery.com/antique-jewelry-item-rg1750wbq.htm

cakeoholic · 01/01/2013 14:04

Thanks everyone, I really like the Taylor one Hetaera but think it sticks out a little too much and seems more engagementy to me iyswim? Also really like your 2nd link Bessie but would prefer something with a central stone rather than a band I think.

Titan I have been searching filligree too but no luck as yet. I am actually really tempted to go for it and order the one you found of the one in my op but worried about not being able to see it first and try it on as it's more money than I've ever spent on myself before and so scared it won't fit/suit me or be as nice after I've spent so much...

Have you tried looking to see if there are any antiques fairs local to you? We have one that comes round to a local hotel once a month that always has two or three jewellery stalls. That's where my mum buys all her jewellery. If there is no urgency I would suggest browsing a few fairs and second hand jewellery shops, trying things on until you find your perfect ring at a good price.

Bessie123 · 01/01/2013 19:54

cake you can contact the jeweller and ask them how much to modify the design. Tbh, I think the ring you love is a bit expensive but if you love it, you love it...

cakeoholic · 01/01/2013 20:55

Thanks for the help and advice. I think I've decided to find some antique places to trawl and also look into getting something similar to the one I love made but just with the filigree setting rather than diamond studded which I'd prefer and hopefully would be a price I'm more comfortable with as well as being able to ensure it fitted.

Bessie if it was a UK jeweller I would contact but worried about the distance buying element. I think I'll try local places and see if I can get a price for a similar style, happy for the filigree pattern to be different so there's hopefully no problem with copying another design

That sounds like a good idea. Plus, if the ring is actually Edwardian it will probably cost less, as well as being better quality, better made and probably nicer. I hope you find what you are after. If you want to go slightly later in period, there are also some beautiful and quite reasonable Art Deco rings around. Please do come back and show us what you get [obsessed with diamond rings]
