Pale lashes and brows

In a bid to go make up free for a while (various reasons) I'm wondering if anyone tints their own lashes and brows and what works best or am I best off going to a salon.

I've done my own lashes before and it works ok but I think it's a slightly better result if you go a salon. I just picked up whatever was on the shelf in Boots. There's not a huge array of choice in this section.

It should be quite cheap if you go to a salon - it's not an expensive treatment. I think the difficult bit with doing lashes is that you need to get right down to the root and obviously it will take you ages as you'll have to do one eye at a time unless you get a friend to help you.

If you do your own brows, try not to get the tint on your skin - use a brush to apply it starting at the outer corner and brush the hairs back on themselves rather than applying like you would a brow pencil or shadow. Hope that makes sense. That should help you get the tint on the brow rather than the skin. Don't leave it on too long, you can always re-do it to make it darker. Be prepared that the brows might look very dark and strange initially, but you'll get used to them quickly.

I would go to a salon to be honest, and I am qualified to do brows and lashes - I still wouldn't bother doing my own, it's not worth the time and effort when it's quite cheap to get it done professionally. I do it for friends though, it's not difficult. You might want to get some vaseline to protect the surrounding skin.

What area are you in? You might be able to get free or cheap tinting from your local beauty college - it would be done by a student, but supervised.

I do my own, mine are actually see through, I use the cheapy dyelash stuff from boots and it works just fine.

I've been doing my own for over a decade, it makes such a difference, my face looks brighter and younger somehow with a bit of definition.

I've started to do my own using dyelash bought from Amazon. It is so easy and simple to do and saves time and money going to a salon.

What's even better is that as soon as I notice fading or the light hairs I can do a top up. When I used to pay for it at a salon I would wait about 6 weeks between appointments so it didn't work out expensive but would have light hairs.

I use an optrex green eye bath to mix the solution and an old angled eyeshadow brush to apply it. I've got the black/brown for my eyebrows and blue/black for eyelashes. I personally find leaving it on for about 20 mins gives me the desired colour. There are lots of tutorials on you tube to help.

How pale are we talking though? Mine are medium blonde and although I wear mascara I could never colour my brows because just attempting it made me look insane, like a wolf woman or something. No idea how other people are doing it. My skin is really pale and hair light blonde so maybe it stands out too much when I colour them?
I might be weird or something but I've never felt the urge to have darker brows.

I've seen a lot of pale brows lately. People seem to go for both the superdark exaggerated HD look and the very pale natural/golden look (if you are a blonde). This is the moment to try nude brows.
