Heated rollers - any good ?

I currently spend 5 mins blowing drying shoulder length fine hair with a big brush to get curls under or kick ups. The curls never last as long as I'd like (is there something I should spray on?).

Would heated rollers give me the same effect in less (hands on) time ? There's usually 30 mins between shower and having to leave the house...

Or would it take 30 mins to get the things in? And how long do they need to be heated ? I've got the 10 mins shower time....

I have long thick hair and heated rollers are my goTo trick to get my hair smooth and to add a bit of volume to the ends.

Babyliss thermo ceramic rollers are best! Easy to use with the plastic grips. Heat up super fast and to get a bit of volume and smoothness you only have to keep them on for 5 minutes. They make your hair look 'done' and 'finished.'. Good luck!

I still have my carmen heated rollers from the 80's. They are great. I have long hair and i use them once/twice a week and it takes me 10 mins to put in if i have heated them while having breakfast. For volume/waves i leave them in 30 mins.

I have long thick hair which takes ages to style. Bought some enrapture heated rollers after my hardresser reccommended them. They take 2 minutes to heat, about 8 mins to put in. I have breakfast, shower, dress which takes half hour or so. Then whip them out.
Makes my hair really shiney, smooth and curly. I brush it through a bit for waves. Then spray with fixing spray. This lasts till I next wash my hair. These roller have a heated clip too so the hair is heated from the inside and outside so probably lasts longer.

My hair doesn't curl with anything other than a tong or wand - I've got 2 bloody sets of the Enrapture rollers but my hair doesn't hold a curl from them Sad.

I am going to buy some of these: Curlformers. They had them on a hair styling course I did earlier this year and they're quick and easy to put in and you could use them on wet hair for a very strong lasting curl and they're soft enough to sleep in.

I have fine layered wavey shoulder length hair and use medium heated rollers to add volume, usually for nights out. It takes 10 mins for them to heat up, 5 mins to put in then leave for 20 mins. Thats on dry hair. So not a quick solution really.

emsyj - you can buy cheaper versions of curl formers on ebay (called magic leverag) for a few pounds.

I wouldn't say that they are comfy enough to sleep in - mine got tangled in the stupid metal curly bits of the headboard and DH had to rescue me in the middle of the night

emsyj · 24/12/2012 22:41

Ooh can you? I will have a look. I bet they don't work for me anyway...

DeafLeopard · 25/12/2012 07:50

No they are good (putting aside the tangling incident). Damp hair, setting lotion and you've got shiny curls in an hour, quicker if you blast with hair dryer.

emsyj · 25/12/2012 11:38

OK, I will give them a go! I am not very good at manipulating the back of my hair and so tend to fail totally with curlers (which is annoying, because I'm quite good at doing other people's hair - I can do proper blowdrying, curling, setting and even a bit of hair up on other folk - just cannot do a thing to my own hair Sad). Would love to find a simple way to do curls on myself.

They are really easy - DD is 8yo and can do her own for dancing.

sarahseashell · 25/12/2012 17:28

that's the trouble with MN Xmas Grin now ordered some heated rollers I didn't know I needed before

scripsi · 25/12/2012 18:19

I've just ordered the curl formers cheap equivalent off ebay (baaa)

didireallysaythat · 28/12/2012 20:15

Oh now I'm torn ! I think the ceramic rollers look like they would give me more of the everyday look I'm after but the curl formers and equivalents look great and easy to use....

Is there something like a setting lotion I should use to make things last longer ?
