Apologies for Daily Fail link.

I'm sure she's been airbrushed to the nth degree but nonetheless Shock

I am 40 and don't look that good. Bugger!

What you have to remember is that this is written FOR the DM.

They like to, should we say, slightly exaggerate things.

Yes, it will be her own words mainly, but she will have been asked I think to put a certain emphasis on parts of it.

Having said that, I think there is nothing wrong in watching what you eat most of the time, especially when you are older when weight goes on much more easily.

Also- maybe it's a bit of a misnomer to think that when you get to X age you should have your mind on other things and not be bothered about your appearance so much. It's slightly ageist or even patronising to say "There there dearie, get back to your garden and forget about your looks", when someone is 70, or 75, or 80.

But above all, don't forget that MS was PAID a lot of money to write this feature. She would have been asked to lay it on with a trowel- the DM likes to provoke its readers. Half measures- such as saying I eat carefully all year then have a blow out at Christmas -would not get the readers going half so much, would it?

Snowkey · 23/12/2012 10:56

What an odd thing to do at the age of 75 - she looks good but who cares, what's she trying to prove and to who?

Selks · 23/12/2012 12:33

It speaks to me that she has massive issues about her looks and self confidence and would have been better placed to have had psychotherapy or whatnot to learn to like herself a bit more rather than turn herself into a parody of plastic 'attractiveness'.

cornystollenslave · 23/12/2012 12:43

She looks great but she has those lulu cheek bones which are very obviously the result of plastic surgery.
I've just been watching Mary Berry on the tellybox. I'd rather look like her in my 70's I think. Far more classy.

juule · 23/12/2012 12:48

Wow, good for her. She looks brilliant and seems happy with how she is:)

drjohnsonscat · 23/12/2012 12:51

I find this depressing. This is not healthy eating and exercise. This is surgery and photoshopping. 75 just does not look like that.

Everyone is free to do what they want and get surgery if they want but don't lie about it and add to the enormous pressure on women to believe there is something wrong with them when they look normal.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/12/2012 13:11

I'd rather look 75 tbh. She looks as if she's trying to still be a teenage rock chick and it doesn't work. Far too much black make up and the long straight hair is clearly a wig.

God I hate The DM.

Andthentherewere5 · 23/12/2012 17:49

About 10 years ago the company I worked for used her in relation to marketing babyfood. I had to go to several meetings with her ( one in her London flat which was interesting and one at Nobo! ) and she looked old even then. I remember thinking that her actual face didn't match the publicity shot we had of her. She was very well spoken but rather cold in a slightly disturbing way. That photo has good lighting, and a LOT of photoshop!

Selks · 23/12/2012 18:16

^ This.

cafecito · 23/12/2012 18:24

I read that, by mistake, online. I was very disappointed that intellectual women succumb to media pressure and surgery, what kind of a message does that give out? I'm all about autonomy, your body, your choice, but this is not healthy imo it's too much. You can die under general anaesthesia for a cosmetic procedure, and there's no way her forehead is that smooth. mine isn't and I'm in my 20s

Floggingmolly · 23/12/2012 18:44

It looks a bit weird actually, because she didn't look that young when she was in her thirties / forties (remember the granny perm?)
If it's real, her surgeon is extremely talented. Wonder what happened to Simon Cowell; he must have had sufficient cash to throw at the ageing problem, yet turned out looking like a melted waxwork of himself.

Ewww at the libido references. Do we really need to know? How prurient.

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 23/12/2012 19:24

Is it me or is she looking like a plump Liz Jones?

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 23/12/2012 19:25

I mean plump as opposed to the scrawny features of LJ don't like LJ a bit

valiumredhead · 23/12/2012 20:21

Photoshopped and great photo.

gazzalw · 24/12/2012 09:17

No, OpheliasWeepingWillow, the same thought struck me when I first saw her!

If you recall some of her back history she was married to Tom Stoppard who left her for Felicity Kendal - maybe she feels she needs to prove to herself that she's still sexy and has a libido?

I still would have expected better of her....heck, Joanna Lumley has managed to still look beautiful and serene in an industry that seems to demand beauty enhancement techniques - I wasn't aware that the medical profession had gone down the same route Xmas Hmm.

Or maybe she's trying to keep abreast of her daughters-in-law?

AloeSailor · 24/12/2012 09:41

I think it's sad that a wise woman feels the need to do this.

Dowser · 22/02/2017 09:55

Watching her on her the wright stuff now...she's 80.
I only knew who it was by her voice!

Can't believe she was born a geordie!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 22/02/2017 11:12

Oh my days its Carol Voderman's ghost of Christmas future.

Fair play to the woman -she looks great.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 22/02/2017 11:14

Balls -zombie thread!

missyB1 · 22/02/2017 11:16

Zombie thread or not I've also watched her this morning on the Wright show and she looks great!

AFierceBadRabbit · 22/02/2017 11:56

im sure this is exactly what that repulsive rag aims for; long reactionary discussion threads furthering the dissection of another woman's looks.
And on we go, falling for it every time....

I wonder is there a section of their septic web-hole which promotes similar discussions about male celebs, actors, etc?

CallarMorvern · 22/02/2017 16:34

I hate her. I had M.E as a teenager and she put out a smug programme claiming it was all it was all in our minds, despite being totally ignorant about the condition. It made my life ( and other sufferer's lives) so much harder, when we were already struggling and she didn't give a #&*#. Being lovely on the outside doesn't hide a crap personality.
