Hair highlights advice needed

I had my hair high lighted today and it looks bad. I have medium brown hair and the highlights are all a nasty copper colour and look so bad. I had a head and then then the hairdresser said she was quickly just going to a t section to lighten it up a bit more. This didn't work.

I am going to a better salon on Saturday and am booked in for a half head. My hair is just about shoulder length . Do you think a full head would be better?

It's gone copper because the bleach hasn't taken enough colour out. You need a corrective tint - blue to counteract orange, violet to neutralise yellow or green to offset red. It's unlikely that a full head will make you any happier, what you need is the shade you envisaged for your highlights.

I think you should talk to the colourist before charging in for more highlights. They might decide to bleach out some streaks, then apply a corrective tone over the lot. Good news is, the toner should give your hair a lovely shine.

Do you use a conditioner with silicon/dimethicone? The silicon can turn red with bleach. Try washing your hair tomorrow with a clarifying shampoo, use a 'natural' conditioner (or none) and don't use any heat styling products. This should give the second lot of colour treatments a better chance of working. I learned about this from Mumsnet :) :)

I'm sat right now in the hairdresser with baleyage to try and rectify orangey roots so I feel your painSad
I'm in France and they don't use toners when they colour hair Angry

Blimey, that's weird Slinky!

Have a look online for Wella Color Charm. It's a home demi-permanent made for the American market. Here are the 'whites':
12A - Frosty Ash, bluish white blonde, demi-permanent dye
12AA - Nordic Blonde, greyish white blonde, demi-permanent dye
050 - Cooling Violet (used to be called Grey Drabber) - Demi-permanent dye additive. You can use it on its own for a serious grey down-tone.
T18 - White Lady, lightest ash blonde - white, semi-permanent toner
T10 - Ivory Lady, pure blonde - silver, semi-permanent toner
T14 - pale ash blonde - semi-permanent toner

You need to use Color Charm with developer, available from the same sellers.

There's also Directions by Lariche, which is a semi-permanent toner that doesn't need developer - it coats the hair rather than locking in.

Despite the above, I hope your balayage has turned out gorgeous!

Thanks garlic - it looks a lot better but I am still Xmas Angry as they charged me for today!! Despite the fact that I'd left their salon with tangerine tinted hair on Tuesday...apparently there was nothing wrong with that colour and going blonder today was my choice and not their correction. Xmas Hmm

Hrrmph! Still, it looks good - and it's the season of goodwill Xmas Wink
Have a nice Christmas!
