Does dermablend cover dark pigmentation?

I have a few patches of dark pigmentation, would dermablend cover them? I will invest in the obagi system, but for now cannot really afford it.
Thank you.

With the right techniques it will cover tattoos, so it should have no problems with covering dark pigmentation. The trick is to build up the coverage in thin layers (setting each layer with powder) and if the pigmentation is particularly strong apply a neutralising colour as your first layer (pick the colour directly opposite on the colour wheel. So for example under eye circles are quite blue so you would start with a layer of orange).

If its something you're wanting to experiment with yourself rather than go to a specialist service or getting dermablend on prescription I'd suggest trying dermacolor as getting a good colour match is so important. Dermacolor do mini palettes with small amounts of a wide range of colours so you can keep experimenting until you find the right colours for you before buying the full size products. Don't be afraid to mix colours to find the perfect match, it's highly unlikely you'll find the perfect colour match without mixing.

The biggest problem is covering larger areas of pigmentation as the finished effect looks too flat compared to surrounding areas of skin. Painting back in an odd number of minor imperfections (freckles, small moles, maybe even a tiny thread vein) with a fine brush is the way to go.

Thanks lthewife I didn't know you could get dermablend on prescription. I have largish dark areas on my shins, so it might be a bummer trying to cover them. Would I need to cover my whole leg so the leg colour looks even, or just the pigmentation?

You should aim to just cover the pigmentation, an all over application tends to look very unnatural and mannequin like. That's why it's so important to mix colours to find your perfect shade. Having said that, you can get a liquid version for use on larger areas of the body. It's not quite as highly pigmented as the normal versions so may not completely cover blemishes, but it is quicker and easier to apply, can look more natural and might be enough to tone down the areas of pigmentation enough to live with them.

Best concealer I've ever used. Superb on old acne scars, current spots and high colouring. Also gentle enough for under-eyes. Everyone should have some of this I think, it's amazing stuff.
