Painful Teeth Whitening

I tried bleaching my teeth with product from dentist and it was so painful. I couldn't use it and felt like I had wasted a lot of money. Has anyone else experienced such pain? I am thinking of trying to bleach my teeth again but want to know best product to use. Is there an effective over the counter one or is it best to get bleaching product from dentist and put up with the pain?

Jingle Bells - if it hurt that much then surely it's a sign that the product could seriously damage your teeth?!?
Go straight back to the dentist you bought it from to get advice / complain.
And in the end, surely yellow teeth are better than damaged/ultra-sensitive teeth!

If you get some sensodyne toothpaste and put it in your teeth whitening moulds and stick it in your mouth for half an hour it will help a bit.

Are you able to change the bleach for a lower percentage? I also only wore the trays 2/3 times a week as opposed to every night.

When it did hurt I smeared Colgate sensitive over my teeth!

I could only do it every second night, and used sensodyne in between

At our practice we provide bleaching agent with anaesthetic gel in and can also buy the gel separately to use in your tray before bleaching

I found the actual trays rubbed on my front gums. Hated the sensation of something in my mouth. i would never be good as a boxer.

I kind of agree TheaJTS but I want to try again. I want to trust that products sold by dentist is safe.
RayofSun what is the anesthetic gel called and can I buy it from chemist or do I have to ask to get it from dentist? She did not mention an anaesthetic gel.
Thanks JennyPiccolo I will try sensodyne in trays. Have brushed my teeth with sensodyne but it didn't help. I will try putting sensodyne in trays to see if it makes any difference.
I cannot believe how much it hurts, i am using a low percentage.

The only product that dentists will use is either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide which forms hydrogen peroxide the active ingredient. The other products you can buy will not work as effectively. You wont damage your teeth and the sensitivity will go away. I cannot bear the sensation of bleaching teeth and I have tried the bleach that has de-sensitiser in it, I've tried every combination of sensitive toothpastes and I can't stand the pain and otherwise I don't have sensitive teeth. I am glad I've tried as I can tell patients that it really can cause unbearable sensitivity and they may not be able to tolerate it before they buy. Not very helpful I'm afraid but I would be wary of spending more as if you find it that bad you might just not be able to tolerate it.
