Lounge suits - erm....does that mean tie?

So DH and I are going to a university reception this evening. Lots of fizz, mince pies and speeches.

Dress code is 'lounge suits'. I shall dig whatever dress fits me 8 months post-pregnancy out of my cupboard. DS has a suit but the shirt I really want him to wear is better with top button undone and no tie.

It's a lovely shirt, but patterned (John Rocha, I think) and would look better tie-less. It's quite smart.

Would he be expected to wear a tie?

A lounge suit is simply an ordinary suit - as opposed to black or white tie. Wearing a tie is optional and in an academic environment not wearing a tie would be perfectly acceptable (as would wearing a bow tie or cravat.)

Perfect - thank you! Should also clarify I don't usually dress DH. He is working; and I've just discovered the small print. Better dig out the iron! Blush

Lounge suit = a onesie, non?

That would've been AMAZING!
