can I convert moth-eaten cashmere jumpers into other things?

I have two lovely cashmere jumpers, one in a caramel colour and the other black, which moths got at years ago. They have since been washed and quarantined so seem to be quite safe. But they remain unworn as the (large) holes are in the front centre of the sweaters. I have very limited sewing skills, can just about manage to sew on a button, but wonder if I could convert the sleeves into leg warmers/wristwarmers? Any advice if you've managed it or ideas as to what else could be done with them would be gladly received.

You might be able to 'felt' them - wash them at 60 degrees, they will shrink and thicken.

You could then cut out squares, and sew them together with blanket stitch to make a really warm scarf?

You could also do this after you cut the arms off to make arm/legwarmers - so get two things out of them.

ooh thanks, I had no idea how things felted (probably should know by now ....)
Just looked up blanket stitch which looks feasible.
So if I cut up to make arm/legwarmers, could I just sew over the raw edges?

Yes I made arm warmers a couple of weeks ago - lush!

I HATE moths - they have ruined load of my cheapo cashmere jumpersAngry

I threw a load out in a fit of pique - shame - I could have felted them...

I saw an idea to make a hat...
You cut out a square sized 54cm by 33cm and half it then sew up two of the three edges..leaving one for your head to go it..
THen you sew through the sewn up edges to make a rouched(?) effect then add buttons and embelishments to the edge.
Its in a book... "
Chic on a shoestring "page 112.. for a better description..

I made legwarmers and a snood out of mine.soooo snuggly.

ooh a snood I could do too!

The hat seems a bit advanced but I might graduate to that.

I really hate moths too (these are all amazing thick cashmere sweaters which I envisaged giving to grandchildren in years to come)

Scripsi - have a look at craftgawker.com (search jumper) for more ideas, or you could post on the arts and crafts thread on here

Craftgawker is a bit like Pinterest - big collection of crafty ideas but with links to tutorials on how to make them.
Loads of "up cycled" jumper ideas on there as well as felted things - you could try a corsage or small toy to begin with?

I was going suggest felting then making a hit water bottle cover, but you would probably need to machine stitch it. However this could be the start of a new hobby?
